There are two leds inside the switch. One is always on and the other only is on when the light bar is connected.

He can accomplish what he’s doing with the current setup. I have about 30 people using my harnesses on the 2nd gens without a gripe . Switches will dim when connected to green/white of rheostat without causing issues with the dash illumination circuit.

OP you are providing power to the truck’s illumination circuit. Please verify Red 1 and Red 2 are not crossed.

OP has confirmed there are two. The way he has it wired now the ground is backfeeding out voltage into the dimmer negative circuit causing the dash lights to be supplied voltage. This is because the led associated with the switch will supply full 12v across the internal switch LED to the ground terminal.

it would depend on internal switch configuration. One cannot have a shared ground with the dimmer circuit that requires a variable ground. I searched and couldn’t find a wiring diagram for that switch. Kind of a mystery i supposed.

It’s a CH4x4/Cali-Raised switch. Thousands of them on the road. All use the same PCB and JAE IL AG5 connector with the same pin out. @bagleboy is the king of opening switches and can chime in.

Like kmorgan3 - - I've seen the switch operate in other installations. The Dash Light LED should be dimmable with the OE Lighting circuit. The OP has just about all of the wiring screwed up.

Green goes to switch power source
Red 1 goes to your light bar relay
Red 2 goes to green of illumination circuit
Black goes to green/white of illumination circuit.
You probably have red 1 going to green wire of illumination circuit.
Black is ground for both switch leds, nothing else.
Red 1 also activates the second switch led.

If the New LED Light Bar Harness comes with it's own relay, the wiring will need to be reconfigured to connect to the Bussman.

Ooof, I guess I’m just not very good at this eh?
Thank you for your reply! I’m going to check connections now and get back to you

That could be, I never wired one of them up, but if the black is truly ground only for just the switch then he probably have a wire screwed up

The variable ground works this way:
Both leds are fed 12V, one from dash light positive(green oem wire) and the other from the output of the switch.
Both leds are connected to the same pin with the black wire. Green/white is the dimmer ground. The rheostat varies this green/white wire voltage from 12v down to a lesser voltage(~8-9v). At 12v the dash is fully dimmed (no voltage potential between green and green/white so no current) at the lower voltage the difference is maximized and the dash is at it brightest.

You can connect the black wire to chassis and the switch lights will activate but not dim.

I haven't seen them in person either. But I've seen many threads helping people hook them up. It would be nice if there was a better schematic. But I made an assumption of the wiring based on past experience.

The Dash circuit appears to be independent of the switch. And the ON LED appears to function even if the Dash circuit is not connected.

    Wise words!

so I have red 1 wired to my relay via a fuse and red 2 is going to the illumination wire.
Lightbar is still not on but now both leds are on.
Ugh, I’m going to check relay connections now and see wth

I bought my truck 4 years ago. Before that I’d never heard of this sort of dimming and hadn’t opened any truck switches.

switch wire 1-------------fuse box 12 volt (preferably an accessory circuit)
switch wire 2------------ to Bussman relay
switch wire 3-------------to dash lighting wire behind the dash
    switch wire 4--------------to ground
LED Light Bar harness positive wire -----------to output of bussman relay
LED Light Bar harness negative wire-----------to ground

I bought a 2007 JK Wrangler brand new. Been a part of that community since then. But I've been into automotive wiring since I got my first car back in 1979.

Source to fuse to switch to relay.
Could be a bad switch or pcb if both leds light regardless of switch position.
    what are your relay connections?
85 and 86 are the switch and ground for the coil side
30 and 87 are connected to a fused power source and your light bar. Other light bar wire goes to ground. Is the light bar polarity sensitive?

He's using a Bussman distribution platform. I don't know the wiring config?
