Im driving an 08 Prerunner SR5 that is equipped with some pretty tame street tires. Im looking to add a slightly offroad tire, that still rides relatively well on the road. Any suggestions that would give me truck a more rugged look and assist more in the hill country while offroad? I would still like a relatively smooth tire on surface streets. Im looking for that delicate balance. Thx.

Welcome to TW! any All-terrain tire will suit you well. BFG A/T TA KO are the most popular Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac is another good brand name. Really cant go wrong with any A/T tire from a reputable brand.

I can't speak from personal experience but alot of members run Hankook Dynapro ATM's for the use you describe.

I have Mickey Thompson Baja Claws, they are a Mud terrain but they are stout tires, I think i will always run Mickey Thompson from now on im that impressed with their performance. That being said this is their A/T version, very aggresive for an A/T IMO

EDIT: only issue with MT is the price.

    They're decent for light offroading.

Coming from Austin, I live in the same Hill Country as you do and I have owned a few of the most popular upgrade tires, the Goodyear Duratracs, BFG TKOs, and now I have Michelin LTX AT2s.

Out of the three for our terrain out here which is mostly limestone and lakebed rock, and rolling hills and curvy roads, the Michelin LTX AT2s are hands down the best out of the three for central Texas roads and highways and light off-roading. If you will be doing more off-road and mudding, I'd say the Goodyear or BFGs. The Michelins are extremely smooth on the road, ride quality is excellent, wet traction is also excellent and much better than both the Duratracs and the BFGs. I have taken all three off-road as well, and surprisingly the Michelins are VERY good in lake bed rock, off road trails, and packed sand. The Duratracs were the best in dry sand, but they also had the worst MPG out of the three. The Michelins were a great compromise between all of the above mentioned, while not losing MPGs. Some Michelin owners of the AT2s on Tire Rack are reporting almost 80K-100K miles on these tires which is also one of the things that steered me to buy this tire. The Michelins also have a better warranty, 60,000 mile tread warranty and 3 years of FREE roadside assistance.

I'm also looking for a good tire that will be mostly highway but need light off road capabilities. After reading a lot of reviews I am going with this tire.

question for everyone... What's the biggest I can go in my trd sport stock suspension without rubbing? I plan to do a lift in about a year but not right now.
