You said that you had just flushed the coolant? Perhaps it still has air pockets in the system? This can cause the sensor to show hot when the coolant temp is actually normal. Did it stop sucking coolant from the overflow reservoir and you topped it off?

Could be something else but being as it hadn't done that before the flush, but does afterwards, it is something to consider. Good luck OP!

Probably not an air pocket then. Could be a faulty temp sensor . . .

Idle should be between 5 and 600. I'm assuming an air pocket. A pocket of hot air in the cooling system sitting on or next to the ECT sensor will cause the Coolant light to illuminate. If you didn't burp the system while filling with coolant, there still could be an air pocket hiding in there

Any idea of what the actual fluid temps are when this is happening?

If you have access to an OBDII scanner like a scangauge or an ultragauge, they will tell you whether or not there is a problem. I have found the stock dash temp gauge to be a very poor indicator of small changes in fluid temps.

Unplugging the battery will clear an OBDII code, but it will clear a sensor-driven light such as washer fluid, low fuel, temperature, etc.

Thinking it might be my coolant temp sensor... or the wiring going to it shorted..

Question is in order to change the part it seems to be under the intake manifold is there an easier way to get to it or take it out without removing the manifold?

It everything else electrical is working and the engine is starting normally, check the terminal connection on the coolant temperature sensor. It might just be loose. Otherwise, before you spend a lot of money or time troubleshooting your wiring, clean and tighten your terminal connections, especially the ground connection between the frame and the engine block and battery posts. If that does not fix the problem, replace the sensor.

Same problem I'm still having. Trying to find a buddy with a scanner but so far no luck.. I'm going to unplug my coolant temp sensor and see if it goes away.. have a feeling its a electrical short. Still have no clue what the fuse is that the system runs off of..

Wait a minute. You guys are saying that light comes on only when the parking lights and lights are on? Do you guys have an actual temp gauge like in this pic all the way to the left? If so that light just shows that that gauge reads the temp

Burp/bleed the radiator. You may have air in the system causing the light to come on.
