Nice thread guys. I have 2 questions…..when installing the UCA's, how did you remove that long bolt on the passenger side?? And in regards to caster/alignment, I will be having ~2.5in of lift, which would be the best setting? the instructions say to set at "D" which is 2.0

Did you go up in tire size the same time you installed the UCA's?

Cutting the bolt would be the easiest route but it can also be removed through a little bending of the inner fender. It's not that difficult, just takes a bit more time. I haven't purchased the bolts but I though I saw a thread stating they run about $30 a pair.

@uhplifted didn't you have to cut your bolt to get your's off? I seem to remember Steve doing that since you had new bolts to go with the new UCAs if I recall correctly.

Bend the inner fender , be aware that there are some hard fluid lines in that area

The bolts don't have to cut but some people have trouble taking them out. LR UCA's don't come with that long bolt. I don't think any other brands do as well.

If I remember right I think he had bought new ones knowing that they were likely going to have to cut the old ones to get them out, if only because it was a lot easier. When I got my LR UCAs installed we didn't have to cut the bolt, but it was easier to get to on my first gen.

Since we're on the subject of SPC Light Racing UCAs, does anyone else have grease coming out of their boots? Mine come out pretty bad on one side, the boot doesn't seal on the bottom and the grease oozes out especially after off-roading. I usually just put another pump or two in after each outing, haven't had any issues with them in the 5k miles I've put on them so far. But it's a little concerning, I wasn't sure if that was supposed to happen or not since I know SPC recommends adding a pump of grease every so often, the old grease has to come out somewhere I guess?

In another thread though, someone linked a page from SPC's website saying that the boots are "sealed" and mine definitely aren't.

It's not that much harder on 2nd gens as I've done about 3 installs. Driver side was harder to get to because of the battery and some hard lines like Oz-T stated above. The bolt can be wiggled out but the inner fender has to be bent.

I think the real question is why Toyota put the bolt in that way in the first place and should we be putting the bolt back the same way.

Theorectically , installed backwards , if the nut ever came off the bolt could work its way out by gravity

I thought about that as well but if I remember correctly on the lower control arms, the strut nut is on the front so if it ever gets loose, the bolt can slip off.

I thought we were talking about LR UCAs

Yes, we are. Sorry to be confusing. I was just comparing the UCA bolt placement to the LCA bolt.

The UCA bolt is installed at an incline with the head of the bolt uphill , thats what I meant , installed backwards , the nut coming off could allow it to work itself out via gravity
