Hi! Strange problem. All of a sudden the lighted areas are out on the temperature area on the dash, and no air conditioning works, but heat seems to work, but no blower though.

The heat seems to still seep out and will heat the cab even in cold weather if I slide the heat/air circulation to come from outside, instead of sliding it to just circulate in the cabin.

If just circulating air in the cabin, no heat.

    I have a 99 tacoma prerunner extra cab v6.

Not sure if the heat is just from off the engine or if working but just with no blower. But it will if you wait long enough during driving, it will heat the entire cab warm in 20 degree weather, if circulating from outside.

Any thoughts on what it could be?

I checked the fuses under the steering column in the fuse panel area and they looked ok, although maybe I didn't know where to look at, or what to look at right. And there is no cold air ever, in fact if you press the air conditioner button on the dash in the temperature panel area, the little light on the button never comes on.

    Any thoughts are much appreciated,

On how to fix or whats wrong or where.

Don't have a lot of cash and would like to do this myself if possible.

It's not urgent, but want to fix because it still looks and runs like brand new, with only 50k mile on it even though a 1999.

    Thanks!

To be honest though for a 1999 and 14, going on 15 years old maybe. It's still awesome. It still has it's original Wrangler tires on it and plenty of tread. =) And never a problem at all until this. =) Although replacing the tires soon. =)

Sounds like a burned out dash light around the temp area in your dash, these are 194 bulbs I believe. Your heat and ac problem sounds like a fuse or relay issue, make sure the wiring is plugged into the blower motor, your ac won't come on unless blower is on, if all this checks good your blower motor switch could be the culprit. Hope this helps.

Thanks very much for the reply. Appreciate it!

Wondering if maybe the lights on the dash/air conditioning button don't come on because the air/blower doesn't come on.

If it was a fuse or relay, where would I find it? I admit I'm lost of this stuff. =) How might I go about testing it? The fuse or relay, or the blower. To find out.

And is it any clue that the heat doesn't work at all without the air recycle slid over to recycle the air in the cab rather than slid to coming from outside?

    Sounds looks electrical to me.

How do i find the wiring plugged into the blower motor, is it inside the engine area or the cab area?

Where do I find the blower motor switch?

Now that I know the AC won't come on unless the blower is on, maybe the AC light etc...lights won't either. So I'll tackle the big thing first.

Any directions, help, pointers is much appreciated. I learn quick, but working from a blank canvas here. =)

Plus even in cold there's heat and i can open the windows.

Thanks again for any directions or pointers. If I get a person to plug it into a engine computer at a parts store would it tell me?

    Thanks!

The blower motor is under the glove box or just above the passengers feet, it has a plug with a white wire and a blue wire I think ,make sure this plug is plugged into the blower motor. The blower motor switch is what you use to turn on the blower. Also on your heater assembly there is a resistor that controls fan speeds if this is unplugged I don't think you'll have any blower motor functions. Normally if you loose blower motor speeds it's the resistor failing check these things I'll look in my manual for fuse and breaker locations and post them. I have an 02 taco trd hopefully fuses and breakers are in the same place as yours.

Check number 30 breaker it's in the engine compartment fuse panel it's a 50 amp for the heater. Number 9 fuse is for your a/c it's in the engine compartment fuse panel.these are for my 02 taco hopefully your are the same.

Thanks Brian! Much appreciated! I'll check all these. I've seen that wire, it just sort of sticks out into the cab, funny thing it has since I bought it originally. =)

    Under the passenger area.

Is there a recommended way to check the 30 breaker or the #9 fuse, I'd think the fuse might look burnt out if so, but maybe not the 30 breaker.

I think the 99 and the 02 should be pretty much the same, as the 99 I think was close to the first year/model of that type/style and they didn't change it for a while.

My blower switch is just a slide from off to high in the temperature area on the dash.

Would a dash fuse turn this stuff off? Wondering... Want to hit all the possibles.

Thanks again for all the help!

The best way to check a fuse is with an ohmmeter, or replace fuse with a known good one. As far as your breaker try to swap it out with a breaker of same value out of the fuse box just for a quick test.

Per the dash lights just tap the plastic cover, thats what i do and mine come back on, lol. I thought a bulb burned out but guess its a short. When it goes out completly ill replace bulb or fix loose plug.
