Lights behind Grillcraft- Help needed!

So spent the afternoon yesterday installing Hella 500FFs behind the Grillcraft MX. It looks great, but after all of the work the lights shake badly while driving. I pretty much installed just like others on here.
While driving my lights bounce very bad. I can see it, and can imagine that the oncoming traffic can notice as well.
Does anyone have any thoughts? They hang from the top of the old grill housing, just like I have seen everyone else do.
I need to stop this bouncing, as it is very bad.

 

Pictures of your setup will help. Maybe there's something that might have been missed.

 

Here are some pics. I thought about the flat bar. I know that if I reinforce the grill shroud between the bolts, that could make it stronger, but the big thing is them shaking back and forth... Thoughts?

 

Looks like you mounted them directly to the plastic schroud. You will need to beef it up with aluminum (strong enough but light enough). I just did the grill yesterday and ordered Hella Rallye 1000 Black Magic lights today. I have time to find what I need to strengthen it up. A few guys have pics of their set up. I noticed someone even made a brace for the sides.

 

what i did to help with the bouncing was i mounted the lights on the two top grille support.

 

ok...I had saw that as well..thats what Im thinking that I will do...because I cant sleep until its perfect...and it looks awesome!

 

Any luck with the fix? I am getting ready to do the same thing.

 

I havent had the chance to fix it yet, but have come up with a few solutions.
1. Reinforce the grill shroud with 1/2" steel plate. On the top and the bottom of the shroud, between the fogs, and the top of the plastic shroud, then on top of it as well. Then if that doesnt make it sturdy enough, run the 1/2" plates from the subframe down to the top of the fog bolts as well (I did mount from the top vs. bottom).
2. or plan B, if the first doesnt work, mount the fogs through the supports that hold on the grill (the parts that you have to take the bolts out of to get the grill off.

Let me know as well if you have any other ideas, or use of of these. It really bothers me to not have this fixed yet.

 

i used aluminum from lowes to mount them on and they barely shake

your going to need .25/.50 inch mending plates(they are pre-drilled) across the top as well as some lateral support, I don't know how they have not already cracked or broken that thin plastic you mounted them direcly to- I would not wait to fix this

 

I am curious, what are "mending plates" that are predrilled?

 

yea, ive heard of these before as well, but didnt know what they look like...is this something that you can get at lowes?

 

Don't have your type of grill but here is the set up I did, less than $20 for the alum, no movement at all.

LB, I almost did that HR mod with my Satoshi, but just relocated them down further behind the valance...

But if I didn't have the hardware available, I would have done what you did...

 

Matter of fact the screws are off the Tundra I had. For some reason I have a bunch of screws of all sizes that are "stock" ???
