This is my 4th toyota truck. The previous 3 had an audible alarm if you accidently left the lights on. It was nearly impossible to do. But now there is no alarm? I think the truck does cut the lights off automatically if left on some period of time. YEs, I know I need to read the manual but was wondering if there is a way to enable the alarm like all the old school trucks??

OP, I think there is a setting in the Nav unit. It "may" be only for how LONG the lights stay on for after the engine is off. I think it was 30 sec, 60 sec, and 2 minutes. The buzzer for lights and seatbelt may need a scan tool.

You can't "leave the lights on". They will automatically turn off no matter what. The adjustment is just for the timing.

Wait, so is there supposed to be a warning for the lights being left on or not? Mine doesn't beep at me for it either and I thought it was weird (though it's good to know they will turn themselves off). lol

Reading is very hard. That is why I avoid the manual and come here to read through many pages to get answers...

I just read "See dealer immediately" and took it literally. Want to preset a radio station? See dealer. Windshield dirty? See dealer. Techs hate me, cashiers love me.

I am trying.... manual is beside my bed and on my phone. That is pretty good... this time I actually got a good answer before someone took the time to state the obvious that I already stated that I needed to do in the post. If you read the OP I said, yes, I KNOW I NEED TO READ THE MANUAL. Right now life is pretty challenging, work is very demanding, min 50 to 60 hours a week, two very very young kids, the wife works at night three days a week and I have kids after work, weekends are just as busy. I just cant find/make time right now and thought I would get a quick answer from someone that knew. Kinda the point of this forum. The point of this forum is not for the majority of replies to be things like, 'read the manual'

I understand the lack of time, that's why I said to read the manual. In the time it took to make the thread you would have found the answer.

    Either way, ok.

I'm not in a much different situation time wise.

It's a lot faster to go directly to an answer than it is indirectly.

    Different strokes, I guess.

    No.

No need for alarm as lights will auto off as soon as you open the door. At least on my '04 and '13.

Someone above mentioned 'timing adjustment'. I guess the new ones can stay on in some pre-specified range to give you time to get in the house or something?

The lights don't auto off if you open the door, they did on my 06, not the 16 though. They stay on for X amount of time, UNLESS I push the lock button twice. Then they turn off right then.

I will also add that the chime for opening the door is accompanied by a "turn off lights" notification on information screen between tach and speedo.

the headunit has a setting for a normal shutoff timer (after last door is closed)... you can bypass the timer if your manually lock the truck with your fob.

the master shutoff (door open, light switch left on position) is 20 minutes.

I have P&T on mine, and if I have the lights on in accessory mode and open the door, I get a msg on the screen and a warning tone. I am not sure if the tone is just because I have accessory mode on and the door open, or if it is the lights being on.
