image.jpg So I did my BHLM a year ago or so. As you can see (the pic is kinda crappy), but my headlights are scratched looking on the top of the lights. Any reasons why?? I live in AZ so possibly the million degree weather? Never had condensation inside or any other problems. Any fixes to this besides ordering new lights?

Looks like they got a clear coat and it's failing. I think anyways. Any imperfections will start to show once that starts to go. I would look into restoring them and clear coating them again. Or else it will happen again even faster if only a restore and no finish. I'm not an expert though so wait for more opinions.

Don't they have a clear coat too though? Or no? He's got a lot of scratches on there. I would think oxidation wouldn't make all those scratches as apparent. Just be hazy/cloudy. I would think that over time of light washing would eventually start showing the scratches when the clear coat starts failing. Or am I thinking wrong? Ha. Idk much about paint. I know my aftermarket ones did the same thing. Hada cleae coat that started flaking/scratching easily and quickly once it started.. I'm currently trying to figure out how to go about putting a finish on my new ones to help make them last longer..

Edit. And the fact my paint on hood and roof is doing the same thing. Looks the same as a clear coat failure anyways.

Thanks for the responses. I had a feeling it was oxidation and although I respect each opinion, the eyelids just aren't my thing. These are factory headlights I've had them since buying the truck brand new. Is this oxidation due to me doing the BHLM or is this something that just happens? I've never had this before on a vehicle and I've done a BHLM before on my wife's old scion.

It just happens...... the oxidation is always on the highspot, the sun beats down on it and shit happens. U may be able to buy some time with a drill, powerball mini, and plast-x

Makes sense. After doing a little more research I'm going to try the mother's nulens kit. I'll post pics before and after. Seems cheaper than buying new lights even if I have to do it once a year until I can afford some retro's

well when u do retros, use oem lights. The other crap will oxidize faster and sadly the clear coat on the INTERIOR of the headlights flakes and u cant do shit about the inside.... u dont EVER wanna touch the inside of the lenses with anything. The smudges smears or anything will not come off once u do.
