I'll be going with 265/70/17 Destination AT Firestone's in P.

I used to work for them and I saw how much hell people put them thru around here in the hogs mud. Every bit as solid as anything out there- if not better. Also the national warranty being served thru locally available stores are kind of nice.

Well everybody I appreciate all the replies. I can't believe I'm doing this but I decided to be honest with myself with how and where I drive which is 95 percent street a 5 percent trails just to get my dirtbikes to where I ride. My truck has a lot of go fast goodies on it and I drive it like I'm on a F1 course. So I decided to forget AT tires and their looks and go with a more useful street tire: Michelin defender m/s 265 65/17 tires at 37 pounds. I'm really stoked on trying these and the traction I'm going to get over AT tires on the road. I hope to have them installed in the next couple of days and feel the lost acceleration again. Thanks everyone!

Good idea. I did the same and moved to back to the SR-A. The Falkens are now for the winter. While I like the looks of the A/T tire, it just didn't make sense as most of my driving is on the road.

I like my Firestone Destination A/Ts. Great tire. Tread wear is great, they are quiet, and I'm running 265/70/17s which are larger than stock abd I've had less than 1 mpg drop.

that is an odd size. 255/75R17 they dont even list that on their website?!?!?! That would be like a 255/80R16 You sure its not a 265/70R17?

If you go to tiresize.com you can search virtually all AT tires and specs and find some lighter weight tires. The Duratracs are very light in C or SL and there are others that are lighter as well.

It's actually pretty common. Chrysler has been using them on Wrangler for at least 5 years now, if not more..

no shit... hmmm. is that a P rated or LT in a load range C?

EDIT - its a P rated (the cooper AT3 in a 255/75R17) and the reason why its so light (39lbs) is is only has 14/32nds of thread depth vs something like a LT265/70R17 in a C load range with 17/32nds of tread depth. That P rated tire is probably not rated for severe weather (no snow or ice rating)

Correct, SL or P as you stated.

A tire doesn't need to be a LT or C load to be rated for severe weather. The P255/75/17 Duratrac is severe weather rated for example. The Cooper AT3 doesn't appear to be though. Its all about the sipes :)

What I like about the 255/75r17 Cooper AT3 is:

    1) the lighter weight provides faster acceleration and stopping

    2) thinner sidewalls provides a smoother ride than stiffer C and E rated

    3) they are quiet for an AT tire

    4) they been surprisingly good in ice and snow.

    What I haven't liked:

    1) I've been stuck twice cause they don't clear / clean themselves of packed mud that is here in Ohio.

    2) I've had two punctures through the tread in this set. One fixed by a plug. The other the tire had to be replaced.

good to hear that even the non snow / ice rated does well... this makes me feel even better about my up coming purchase of LT 265/75R16 AT3's in a load range C

Who is "tirereviewsandmore.com" and how have they come to determine why those, in their option, are the best Tacoma tires?

Edit: Ahh, they are associated with DTD from the looks of it. Doctored reviews to push tire sales maybe, idk...could be wrong.

Try reading the reports and then come back. No need to go bashing info you have not even read fully. I only put it out here to give some extra info on tires. How each reader determines the info on what tire the are looking into is up them.
