    Swapping in manual transmission
Hello, I'm getting everything together to do a manual swap and have been looking at stage 1 clutch kits on ebay. I see a few come with a lightweight chromoly flywheel(19LBS).
Anyone have experience with lighter flywheel? Seems like the better throttle response might be nice but how much different would it be taking off from a stop, over a stock weight flywheel. Will i have to feather the clutch a lot more in very slow situations?

Looking for any suggestions or advice(need to make up my mind)

    Thanks

    Stay with OE flywheel weight.
You'll miss out on stored momentum on start up by using lightweight.

Thats what I've read, how bad is it though?
Do you have experience with a lightweight flywheel.
Just trying to figure out exactly how much take offs will be affected.
Will it be to the point where it wants to stall all the time?
I hate it when I can't make up my mind.
    Anyone else?
    Thanks

Imagine being at a stop light @yotakid87 in heavy traffic.
The light turns GREEN and your engine goes KAPLUNK on take off or you rev to 2000rpm, slip the clutch and burn rubber and KAPLUNK.
I had a lightweight flywheel on a 2 stroke 6cyl sand rail. It was great in the sand but had to be push started on pavement or risk burning the friction plate. Motorcycles have multiple metal slip disk clutches, your Taco doesn't.

    Makes sense.
IIRC stock flywheel is around 23lbs and lightweight one is 19lbs.
Could 4lbs really make that big of a difference?

Is your truck 2 or 4wd? V6 or I4? In a 2wd street truck with some power it would be desirable, in a heavier 4wd that is driven slowly off road not so much...

Honestly depends on what ur aiming/going to use it for. I had a light flywheel and then I went wheeling w/ a bunch of guys from work and It can take light terrain but med/heavy terrain I would recommend the oe cause the momentum is their but if ur going to use it as a street truck it would be a good and in all honesty it's not that bad on the street... Jus my 2 cents

I don’t see what you’d gain by going lighter. Just drive it like the 150hp truck it is

4x4 3.4l v6. It won't be used for off roading very often. It will mainly stay on the street, and dirt roads. Probably won't see crawling scenarios.

Supposedly a bit better throttle response and possibly slight increase in mpg from what I've read.

Was that on the truck in your signature?
Did you have to feather the clutch a lot more to take off compared to stock ?

Better throttle response for what, though? It’s not a race car.

honestly, going heavier with the flywheel seems like the move

Unless you have a specific reason to go to a lighter one, like racing or autocross or something, then sticking with the stock weight seems like the wise choice. Otherwise you're in 'butt dyno' territory, which is horribly unreliable.

Ok well sounds like stock weight is the way to go. Thanks for the advice everyone.

Light weight Flywheel in a Light High Power Car.

If your Truck sees Trails at all You would get real Good at Changing Clutches .

Then of course it would let you set at the worse possible place.
