    2023 TRD Off Road
Looking for all the input I can find at this point.

Bought 2023 Tacoma TRD Off Road 4dr w/4k miles last fall to replace S10 4 cyl. Salvage title due to deer hit right front fender, windshield and mirror. Beautiful truck but like it less every time I drive it.

Gas mileage is horrible!! 8-10 around town, 15-17 at 60mph. 10-12 at 70mph. Last time I drove vehicle this thirsty it had a Hemi in it & gas was 35 cents a gallon.

ECM issues and undrivable if below -0 deg. until cabin warms up. Owners manual alludes to same problem if too hot and advises to run heat or AC until cabin temp within operational range.

Transmission reluctant to shift into 6th gear unless forced in Sport Mode then still occasional down shifting on slight incline. But, in rain, same road, constant hunting between 6th & 5th, several times per mile. Insane amount of trany hunting in normal drive mode.

Tacoma is POC towing 1700# pontoon on tandem trailer, refused to shift above 5th and constant hunting up & down. In 5 mile 60 mph construction zone trany shifted 57 times! Drove 200 miles with tach between 3200 & 4600 RPM i.e 7 mpg.

Infotainment Center confused, fuel mileage graph shows incremental mpg but if you shut truck off then back on mileage history will show 50% better. Will show 30 mpg after long stoplight? Travel history will pop up and show last start and travel time but time is off by 9 min. Regardless of previous mileage or fuel consumption always shows “256 miles to empty” after fill up. Has decided not to recognize wife's cellphone.

Cruise Control is another issue. Has stutter issues with large overhead signs and bridges. Adaptive feature picks up vehicles in adjoining lanes and reluctant to pass. Wants to pace big trucks when passing then floors it to get back up to set speed once you get ahead of truck. Will go into collision avoidance mode if car in adjoining turn lane slowing down quickly. Don’t even hope to use it if towing anything.

Keyless locks & ignition sometimes refuses to lock doors & beeps until you restart and shift out and back into park.

Dealer says everything checks out OK and cannot reflash ECM. Claim issue is the 285/75 tires on truck.

Any suggestions other than a trade?

Sorry, can't help you. I have the same exact truck you have and I absolutely love it!

Do you know for certain/in detail what was damaged, who repaired it, and how they did it?

Trade it in and move on to a different truck/car. Make sure you test drive the thing. It’s miserable having to deal with something you don’t like.

Salvage title, most dealers will avoid it like the plague, those that don't will hammer him on price.

Don't use 6th for towing or everyday driving, only for open highway that's fairly flat. Did you test drive it before you bought it? Get stock size tires.

Some of that stuff is directly related to your tires, but you certainly could have issues from a repair because no one totals a 4k mile truck after “right front fender, windshield and mirror. Beautiful truck but like it less every time I drive it.”

Replace the tires with some SL load range tires (ie ditch the LT tires).

Sounds about like a 3rd gen Tacoma. Those are all common characteristics of the truck unfortunately. It's average at about everything and not really good at anything.

I'm sure the hundreds and hundreds of thousands of happy 3rd gen owners will agree.

In all seriousness, get some stock size standard load highway terrain tires.

I think this salvage truck was a little beyond deer damage. There's some voodoo going on here.

I'd like to search the VIN and see what really happened... I'm guessing that it involved more than just the front end. Possibly 2+ doors, the hood, the roof, and some mechanical/electrical stuff too.
