I read the reviews for Scamp and all things pointed towards poor quality and poor interior design. Casita Trailers were said to be a comparable competitor with much better construction http://www.casitatraveltrailers.com/index.html

3,000# with a 4 might be a bit of a pull by the time you put all your gear in water, propane etc. you'r going to be over 3,500. I pull an 18' that's a lot lower and maybe 500# lighter with my 6 cylinder and you know it when you get to the hills. I guess the later model trailers are higher for ground clearance but you still have the axles to deal with I would reather have it lower for wind drag. I bought a used Sunline that has every thing for $2,500 you might have a look a Feather Lite they build some pretty light weight ones.

Hmm. Feather Lite doesn't seem to have ready-made camping trailers, or am I missing something? http://www.fthr.com/

The only thing I've towed was a jet ski on a 1500 miles round trip to Canada. Aside form that I love road trips!

Ah, growing up we had a similar model. Some of these styles can be pretty darn light, and cheap. That is a massive cargo area in the front there!

That's not too bad. Depreciation blows, though.

Let me know if you can see this okay. It's from when we bought the I4. Unless I'm reading it wrong, "Towing Capacity for Trucks: 6500 lbs."

    http://www.carmax.com/enus/view-car-specs/default.html?stocknumber=7746527

I noticed the pre-2005 I4 models could only tow half that, ~3,200lbs, but if you know differently, I'm all ears. Best to learn now than to blow my engine :D

They have some really awesome truck tents for not much money.

That, combined with an air mattress (they have them custom made for the beds of our trucks) and good company and you'll have yourself an awesome setup!

You could always look at a rooftop tent, also. For what you were going to pay for the pull behind, you could get yourself a very nice setup with a rooftop tent, awning, standalone shower, collapsible picnic table, etc...

Don't let it get you down!!
