My vehicle loses the Bluetooth setting to enable CarPlay. I've purposely waited for all systems booted after starting engine and tested with multiple iPhones in current and last year generation. The IOS 17.5 and 17.6 update show the same issue. I've completely deleted the vehicle and phone from each other and started again.

I'm pretty certain this is good test methodology and in my day job know managing both Android and Apple, Bluetooth and WiFi at scale. Now I'm sure this is flakey and the same 3 phones don't have these problems with other make vehicles we use often.

Thanks for any input here. Let's try to keep it to this possible problem vs any gripss about the system.

Here's what it looks like. You have to slide it back to Use For CarPlay when you never deselected it in the first place.

    Thank you.

I have found this can happen when you set up multiple devices on the vehicle like you have here. It doesn't seem to remember which device was enabled previously for carplay and so you have to choose 'Use for Apple CarPlay' to reactivate it every time. Is this the issue you are describing?

I have not tried deleting the other devices knowing it would seriously annoy my wife and likely annoy my daughter. Still, several of us are setup with my mother's year old Acura and use it often without issues. Our family of 5 is set up with our 2019 VW and no problems like this. Once in a while the VW CarPlay fails where it is all fine if you turn it off and on which is quite different from this settings change with no one touching them, and then having to go into settings.

    Thank you.

Yeah, it is annoying. I also see the issue. Probably need to report it to the dealer and demonstrate it. Then hopefully Toyota will get the bug report and patch it. You could also call toyota corporate and open a case with them. They have been helpful with my support case.

My response from the dealer where we purchased 44 mi away and where we go for Toyota service was not at all encouraging. This not someone daft to basic Bluetooth setup and how they perceived it. Thus why I was interested in casting this net to see if others have the same thing going on.

New to Tacoma and new to CarPlay, but I have also been seeing the exact same problem you posted. Unfortunately (or fortunately) it only happens occasionally and I can not reproduce it enough to talk to the dealer. It sometimes happens even after CarPlay has been running for and hour or two. It doesn't only happen at startup. I only connect wirelessly, so I've kind of just assumed it was just a Bluetooth sensitivity. I also am still using an iPhone 8; I even attributed the problem to my 'old' phone technology. Maybe it's a Tacoma bug as you indicated.

One other gremlin that I neglected in my earlier post...Sometimes CarPlay will start up and appear as if all is fine except Google Maps displays as a blank page, just a blue triangle with no underlying map.

    Here are two:

    1) Unable to increase volume when receiving and playing a text message in CarPlay. Voice volume is turned too far down. Can barely hear it.

    2) Stereo does not mute while playing a text message. Must listen to the text message while music continues to play.

Issues connecting to CarPlay are more common for me if I remote start the vehicle. When I hit the CarPlay button under Bluetooth settings in the vehicle, it simply thinks for a bit and then does nothing. Restarting the infotainment system by holding the volume knob in for a few seconds works sometimes. Other times I have to restart the phone. Definitely needs a fix, will put in a complaint as soon as my login issue is resolved.

I also have an issue where after being logged into the vehicle and the app for a week with no issues, the app will no longer login and the vehicle pops up a “you are no longer connected” message and asks for the PIN. Putting in the PIN or trying to login to the phone app simply freezes both. The constant vehicle pop up’s every 5 minutes are unbearable. Trying to login to the website on a PC states that my “account has been locked due to too many login attempts”. I did change my password on the website prior to these errors and it appears that the phone app and vehicle kept trying to login with the old password in an endless loop locking the account. I have a ticket open with Toyota Brand Engagement who was able to reproduce the issue, so hope to have it solved by next week.

I’m disappointed that the seat and mirror settings are saved by account login or key fob instead of a button press. We only use one fob per vehicle as having two Tacoma and two Odessey keys hanging next to my door is useless and unnecessary wear.

Seat and mirror settings can be saved and accessed via the FOB? I did not know that. How do I do this? Thanks!!!

From further research, the Link Key option appears to only save infotainment and dash layout settings. Consensus seems to be that there are no seat / mirror preset options anywhere.

With your profile selected go to

Settings > Personal Info > Link Key

That profile will load when the key is present
