My wife has a 2012 SRX with a top-of-the-line Bose sound system. We also have an older Corvette with the Bose system for day trips, weekends, and vacations. The JBL system in my 2014 Tacoma Sport puts them both to shame.

There's certainly no parity, but doing a quick "build" of a 4Runner on Toyota's site, the MSRP for the 4Runner Limited is $7K more than the Tacoma Limited (DCLB like mine). In fact, you can get a Tundra Limited for that much. I was disappointed they didn't give the Tacoma the 4Runners instruments or leather, but I'm satisfied with what I got (except for the wheels which I've already jettisoned).

I have not heard another vehicle with a stock system that sounds as good. The JBL sound system hits hard for being stock and I couldn't have asked for a better system.

The only thing I really would change about the Limited Tacoma is the 18“ wheels. It doesn't look bad, but I prefer something in the 16" category with the off-road aggressive look. When the tires wear out, I will look into change the wheels.

Overall the truck is rock solid. I can see this going 400k miles, unlike a domestic. It seems they are a full size truck in a mid size body.

I have a 2013 limited long bed in super white. I wasn't planning on buying a limited when I went into the showroom. Test drove a 2014 MGM sport and the 2013 limited. Both great trucks. The 2013 limited ended up being cheaper (being a year old). 2013 limited was $1000 cheaper and came with $1500 worth of options and 1.7% financing vs 2.9% for the 2014 sport. Got more truck for the money and don't regret it at all.

Yeah, this just blows me away. I was gonna get the base model, but I planned on adding a hitch. So for an extra couple grand I got the hitch, oil cooler, upgraded alternator (well, I guess the tow package), auto dimming rear view mirror, backup camera, and a bunch of other stuff in the SR5 power backage. Sold my 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander, and that had heated mirrors. There are a lot of options I would give up in the Tacoma for those heated mirrors, including digital compass (I know where the fuck I'm going), backup camera, leather wrapped shift knob, etc. I'd trade all of that for the heated mirrors in a heartbeat. May have to tackle that mod that I read about on here, because once you get used to the heated mirrors in a Canadian winter, you don't want to be without them.

love readin' this thread, I get a chuckle about "real transfer cases" tough stuff for off road ect. then some of the bashing on some of the newer stuff.

Started out long ago when it was really "whimpy" not to have to get out & lock your hubs in then "grind" your transfer case in. Didn't even think about it while moving. heated seats & mirrors? Damn if the heater itself was working & the windows not frosted or fogged we were livin'

But times have changed & truth be know most miles & time over a year are spent driving to work or school, haulin' kids or goin to the grocery store & such. every once in a while the boat ramp is slippery, it snows faster than the road crews keep up, or we actually do get into some rough roads.

So be prepared>>>>> as one of those older guys I say to each his own. If i want to go 4-wheeling hardcore I don't like to do it in a new truck - I'll take one with some experience & character. As an everyday driver I like being prepared & EVERY new Tacoma has a level of "cushy" stuff. Just depends how much ya like :)

I think this quote is pointless....... It doesn't get you home?? Really? How is chrome impeding your progress at all? Doesn't make the truck less capable.

In TIMMAH's defense....20" chrome wheels with low profile touring tires and crappy tread as opposed to a 16" stock wheel with an All terrain tire on it. :D

Please don't argue....express opinions calmly.

Of course you're right, but I'm sure he means that "flash" in and of itself isn't functional. So taking that a step further, "debadging", removing the decals, removing the mud flaps, painting the wheels and trim black, tinting the windows and countless other things people do to personalize their trucks "won't get you home" either. It all comes down to personal preference and I know full well that I don't belong to the majority demographic on this forum.

I think if you polled the (few) people here who actually own the Limited models, you'd find they're satisfied with their trucks and the deals they got on them. (When I bought mine, it was the only Tacoma the dealer would seriously negotiate on and the heated seats, easily cleaned non-cloth interior and up-level infotainment system it came with are functional.) I know the Tacoma isn't in the same luxury league as the 4Runner or Tundra Limited's, and I know people have a high expectation of vehicles with a "Limited" badge. But a Tacoma "Denali" isn't what I was looking for and I didn't have to pay anywhere near that for it. I don't doubt that the next gen "Limited" will be closer to everyone's expectation, but I got 18 years out of my 1st gen Tacoma and have no doubt this one will last as long. Good luck and best regards, everyone.

    Sorry, can't let this go...

The Limited comes with 18" wheels, not 20's... and the crappy tread tires are the same brand and model that comes on the TRD Sports with 17"s. (at least for '14.) The 16" "All Terrain" tire the TRD Off Road comes with OEM isn't much better and won't satisfy 99% of the people here that seriously off-road. We should compare "apples" to "apples" since most people can't spell "pomegranate".

My understanding is that JBL is part of Bose and Bose designed the JBL system for the Taco which explains the awesome sound. I do love that stereo and you are right, it is hands down the best OEM stereo I have heard. I am in the process of sound deadening my truck (have done the floor boards and back wall) and still have to do the doors and roof. I can't wait to hear it after everything is "tightened up".

I didn't say it had 20s. I said a stock 16 with an AT tire is better than a 20. I was just making a point of how an even more low profile set up is worse than 16s with AT tires.

I didn't say anything about the limiteds. I was saying....chrome setups (typically 20" and bigger) with low profile tires aren't as sturdy (may have enough tread but not enough side wall to be practical) as the 16in set up. I apso think anyone who wants better performance out of their truck puts better tires on it initially or right after wearing out what comes on it.

"Apples to apples" (at least by my worthless opinion) = lower profile shit sucks therefore, 18s with bridgestones (what i consider a touring style tire) isn't great off road even compared to the BFG Rugged fails. However....i would choose the bridgestones over the dunlop AT20s that came on my truck.

Sorry if i sound like i'm pissed, i'm not, i just don't want you to think i'm an idiot.
