I did they same thing as you. I measured the hole, and ordered the wrong plugs (the part number you ordered). The plug your looking for is part 90950-01987 :).

Do the 05 and 11s have the same frame holes? What was the problem with the p/n plugs I ordered? Too small?

Just looked at the pictures you posted...my plugs look different than the ones you put in. They also have a number 4 embossed on the outside that I don't see on yours.

    Don't you mean 90950-01987?

    @ tacoma4,

I think 01992 may fit the larger rectangular holes located in the rear fender wells.

Does anyone here think there is a legitimate reason to hold off installing these plugs until the frame is inspected? I don't live in a recall state, but the campaign may expand to the South.

Your right! I looked at the paper too quick and I thought it was a 5, not an 8. But I changed my previous post so people won't be confused (myself included). The 01992 plugs are too wide for the holes (going up/down).

I haven't put mine in yet, but it looks like the correct ones would just be able to slide side/side, exposing parts of the hole due to the part that goes into the frame being nowhere near as wide as the hole.

Something else I found is there is also another same-size hole on the other side of the tire, toward the front. Looks like you actually need 3 per side on my '05. Going to measure the remaining holes up front and guess at which plug to order for those.

The outer part of the plug will cover the hole completely. I know it looks small, but it works.

The only reason I didn't plug the front hole was that most snow/slush/ice doesn't really build up there, so I didn't feel the need to do so. But please let us know if it takes the same size plug. Thanks

My '05 just qualified for a new frame. I think that will include new leafs. So, my question is this: what's the best way to take advantage of them ripping my truck apart? I am thinking of a leveling kit, maybe small spacers (not willing to go up to bigger tires or wheels-$$) just to make it look tougher. I'd like to make it look & drive newer. I plan to put in new headlights and paint the peeled allow wheels, but it drives a bit sloppy: new springs in the front or new steering components?? Hoping to make the best of this deal!

Why do you feel you have to get something more out of the "deal"? You're already getting a new frame installed free of charge on a almost 10yr old vehicle! No other manufacturer would do that! Most are just going to tell us "that's what happens when you drive in salt laden streets". I feel we are already getting the best possible deal all the way around!
If you want to buy components and have them install, they may (probably will) charge labor. My dealer charges $125/hr:eek: I would think new parts would go on easier than old worn parts, and it would save them hassles during reassembly. I would go with front end steering and suspension.:D

No. Do what you can to prolong the rot. It's always better to need/get a frame later on. If I was considering buying two identical year taco's and one had a new frame while the others new frame was 2-3 years older I would buy the truck with the new frame. Chances are it will have been cared fro better and Ill get more use out of it. Also the techs will have "learned" how to properly swap one by then.

I spent all day yesterday scrubbing my frame with degreaser and today Ill be sanding and coating the bad spots with rust reformer. I hope to extend my frames life as long as possible and I'm in a salty recall state.

It's been a week and no word on my truck, it's probably sitting on the lot waiting for the new frame. Hopefully I'll hear something this week. It will be interesting to see how they handle the wiring I ran along the old frame for a rear camera and power tailgate lock.

The guys at Toyota told me, "if you want a lift or something, now is the time!" They will charge for labor ($69/hr I think), but it will be nominal compared to doing it from scratch. I assume a lot of the parts end up getting replaced anyways because there's simply no way to get rust-welded stuff off without shearing. If it's already apart, why not make it as "new" as possible now, instead of pulling the new stuff apart again at a later date? And like you said, I'm sure new parts are way easier for them to install.
Sounds like I may have a leak in the exhaust now, too. Engine light came on this morning. Ahhh.

You should've told them about it. Since it's not OEM they're probably not liable if they damage it because they didn't know it was there.

They were fine with it. But I did mention they would have to clean it off before they did anything and they were fine with that too. Mine passed the inspection, i'm not surprised as it's a really clean truck and I painted the frame with a KB coatings kit right after I got it. Then fluid-filmed it. Apparently they are so backed up with swaps and undercoating jobs mine won't get in until October.

Stopped by dealership today and looked in the wheel wells of a couple of 2014's. Each front wheel well use 3x #4 plugs, 1x #6 plug and 1x #0 plug. The rear wells had no plugs in either truck. Those plug numbers are what is stamped on each plug. Unfortunately, those numbers do not correspond to anything on the PDF part order list I posted. You just have to measure the hole and hope you ordered the correct ones. All of this info is assuming they didn't change anything from 05 to 14.

    @tacoma4

Plug part ending in 1992 isn't one of the front well plugs, sorry.

It would seem to me, with all these rust issues and qty of trucks out there, that someone could make some real money making a kit per year/frame of the plugs and sell them on the net. I know I'd buy one even for my later model .... Anyone hear of a source for this ??
