Howdy all. My step son had a hard off in my 2003 Taco. Slick roads, curb>fence>over short rock wall>landed in a backyard. It drove home but no poop, just flat under acceleration. Wondering if there is a limp mode feature that engages during an accident? Thanks! Jeff PS: He's fine. Currently online looking at the bus routes.

Not that I know of... I would look to see if the exhaust was crushed.

Good call Glasmisman. I'll get a closer look this weekend and report back. Thanks!

Is the check engine light on?

I wasn't aware these trucks have a limp mode. If something were wrong, there should be a check engine light, and the error code can be read with a OBDII scanner.

Most auto parts stores will read then for you for free, or you can get one for like $20.

Exhaust is a good idea, as that wouldn't necessarily throw an OBD code.

The computer will go into a Fail-Safe mode (limp mode) if there is a fault in certain sensors (or their circuits), but the check engine light would be on in that case.

A search for limp mode shows people experiencing it (or at least they think they are) for various reasons. For example a guy says a temp gauge failure threw him into limp mode. ECU thought vehicle was overheating. Another says throttle body issue caused limp mode (2003-2004).

I agree with Glamisman about starting first by looking for damage induced reasons. Keep it simple type problem solving first, since you know the issue was preceded by potential for physical damage to sensors, wires, etc.

Thanks All! No check engine light, which may or may not be helpful. I saw the various other reasons for what was presumed to be a 'limp mode' response but with the impact I wanted to ask specifically. Hoping the weekend will give me an opportunity to crawl around under the thing and inspect the exhaust. I'll keep ya'll posted.
