So I changed out my rack and pinion yesterday. Everything went fine. Only issue I had was my outer tie rods must be off because the steering wheel is 45 degrees to the right. I internally centered the rack and pinion and had the steering wheel straight when connecting the steering shaft.

After going for a test drive the truck would cut throttle response after about 19 mph. Could it go into limp mode because the steering wheel is off by 45 degrees or is it something else?

So not sure if it’s limp mode or what. But what’s happening is throttle cuts out at around 19mph.

No lights. But out of the 6-8 attempts to get past 20mph, one of the times I pushed the throttle harder(not full throttle) and it started beeping like traction control turned on but I didn’t see if the traction light turned on because the steering wheel is 45 degrees off and it was blocking the dash.

So if I have about the same amount of threads showing on the tie rod ends does that mean I could of possibly not internally centered the rack correctly since the steering wheel is off to the right?

Should I make sure tires are straight, disconnect steering shaft, center steering wheel then reconnect steering shaft?

I didn’t realize if the truck goes straight but the steering wheel is off then it will freak out and go into a sort of “limp mode”

Yes. Then go get an alignment. You know about being careful not to bust the clock spring, right?
