    ::: problem solved, see my post below:::

    I have a couple kicker iq amps and the stock 3rd gen head unit. I had a off brand line out converter that had ok voltage but terrible sound quality. It was cutting off everything above about 14KHz..

    I just swapped it out for a couple kicker line out converters. They sound much better but now I'm turning the gain WAY up resulting in noise at low volumes. The same thing is happening on 2 different amps and 2 different converts.

    I've already checked that the gain on the LOCs is turned up. Amp input is set to low. Has anyone run into anything like this before?

    Is the amp on the lo-input or hi-input setting?

    On those amps:

    Low = 125mV - 5V
    High = 250mV - 10V

    What did you set your LoC to put out? It sounds like you’ve been twisting knobs without actually calibrating your levels.

    They are maxed out. I don't have a true rms multi meter so I don't know what the exact voltage it.

    :::problem solved:::

    I don't know the exact problem but a factory reset fixed it. I suspect the problem was the IQI.

    I have a 500.4, a 500.1, and an IQI connecting them. both amps had very low output. I did a factory reset through the app ONLY ON THE 500.1 amp and everything was fine after that for both amps. I now have the gain set to zero and I have more than enough volume to keep me happy.
