Line X fender flares?

Welp, i'm getting bored... has anyone out there had there stock fender flares Line X'd? What can i expect to pay to have them done by a professional Line X dealer?

gimme some thoughts please!

I'm going to do this for sure, might just do rustoleum bedliner to match my rocker panels

yea i like the look of those line X'd flares... ive seen that picture before somewhere on TW... thats kinda what im leaning towards, i just dont want to pay an arm and a leg to have it done. my flares are getting a little faded and beat up lookin... thanks for the post

My fender flares, rocker panels and rear bumper are all Line-X'd. I really like the look and it does have impact on mud/rocks flying. I had the chrome bumper (Off Road) and that is a reason I did it to the rear bumper (I bought a new grill color matched to the truck).

I like the Line-X and have many compliments about the look. Functional and looks good - tough to beat!!!

 

Herculine them. Trust me.

 

id linex mine but idk how to get them off and am not brave enough to do them while theyre on the truck.

 

I painted mine. I prefer the smooth glossy look over the bedliner's coarse/dull look. For functionality when you wheel a lot the line-x is probably a better option though.

 

My bumper only cost 150 to line x. I can't see fender flares costing any more then that

My brother just bought a bunch of line-x for his bed, might have to steal some and do my flares tomorrow!!

 

What do you guys do about the rubber seal on the edge where it touches the body? I took one of mine off and thinking of just taping it off where it is. I gotta buy them clips now too since they all broke screw it they are $6 for 10-pack think I'll do my mudflaps too.

 

I dont like HERCULINER, I put 3 coats in the bed of my truck 2 years ago and its chipping and peeling. Wouldnt want it on my fenders IMO

 

I took it to someone who does painting at his house. He prepped it with a primer that is made for plastic. My truck was color keyed, so the flares were already painted silver. If you have unpainted black flares it will probably take the same or similar primer. Then just base coat and clear coat.
I will say this; I had it at this backyard mechanic because he was a little cheaper, but in hindsight I should have taken it to a professional body shop and had it done right. This guy had to sand and respray it because of sand particles imbedded in the clear coat the first time. I don't think he did it right because the clear coat started peeling just recently, and it does not peel anywhere else on the truck; just the top parts of the flares where he sanded them down.

Bottom line; prep and primer is important. Unfortunately I don't have any information on the type of primer used.

 

I had mine done with Line-x almost five years ago. They still look good except for the underside where it wraps around and sits directly where stuff can be thrown off the tire. The worst section is at the very bottom of front fender flares where it is directly in the line of stuff coming off the bottom of the tire. That being said, it doesn't look bad and it's only a little section that is starting to really show wear. I'd do it again. No idea what the cost was, I had it done through the body shop that was fixing some other stuff after an accident. Insurance wanted to replace the fender flares with new, I was able to get them to Line-X and give me the difference between Line-X and new fender flares.

 

If you have unpainted black fenders, I would try cleaning them with Magic Eraser. It may leave them nice enough to change your mind
Just be careful not to hit the paint with it, magic eraser is not always nice to paint.

 

I personally prefer the smoother look that you'd get from either plastidip (which I did like 6 months ago), or from one of the rattle can products (like what @jamtoz did early in this thread using pro guard gravlguard). I don't like the rough look (or feel!) of the hurculiner or line-X. I'm sure I'd scratch myself every time I walked by.

When I plastidiped mine, I sanded them down to the primer (they were color matched) because the clear coat was coming off, then did like 6 coats of plastidip. If/when that starts wearing off, I'll probably switch to the gravlguard stuff or something similar.

 

Waking this from the dead. I'm going to explore color matching LineX on these. I love this place.
