yeah that would look sick, the sand one I liked too, I’d probably go white and black mostly because I haven’t seen a white line-x job yet

I am getting pretty serious about pulling the trigger on this for my 2017 Black Taco. I have polished it so many times to remove pin stripes that I hardly have any clear coat left. But before I decide 100% I decided to do some torture testing on a 09 Taco door I found on marketplace. I had it coated in black. I am about 50% done making a YT video about it. But so far I am super impressed with this stuff. My main concern is staining since I am thinking about going black for the whole truck and its permanent.

So far, it hardly leaves hard water stains and when it does, they just rub off with a brush. Mud and dirt come off super easy. I let salt water bake on for 1 hour and it came right off with no residue. I let soda, BBQ sauce and ketchup bake on in the sun and all came right off with no trace. I threw an egg at it and let that bake in the sun and it also came right off with no trace. Then I stepped up to gasoline, hydraulic clutch fluid and spray paint. Gas and clutch fluid came off very easy. Spray paint stuck on 100% and would not come off with 1900psi pressure washer alone. Going to try some acetone and a brush today to see if that works. I heated up sap and dripped it all over the door and let it bake for 5 days and about 98% of it came off with pressure washer. The residue came off easily with a bit of acetone and toothbrush and the acetone did not leave any trace either. I've been trying to get bird to poop on the door by leaving it outside with bird seeds all over it but no luck getting them to poop on it yet haha.

Next I am going to try scratching it with branches then keys, then making artificial hail stones, also going to test a shopping kart at full speed into the door, then going to throw golf balls, change, rocks, tools, and glass bottles/soda cans at it. After all that I am going to shoot an arrow at it, then try shooting it with .22 , 9mm, .40 , .223, 7mm, and shot gun. Also going to lite it on fire then drive over it before dragging it behind my truck for a while haha. If you have any other suggestions feel free to share!

Line-X does not add a ton of weight, anywhere from 80lbs - 100lbs tops per the rep at Line-X
Line-X cost about the same as a paint job or wrap but will last 10x longer and scratch resistant
Line-X is extremely easy to clean. Most contaminants come right off with pressure washer, soap and a brush if not. This means no more micro fiber towels, no more clay bars, no more wax, no more polishing. Way less maintenance then paint or a wrap.
Line-X premium has clear coat with UV protectant so "supposedly" wont fade like regular Line-X.
Line-X offers some serious protection VS paint/wraps. Vandalism, sever weather, off roading, road debree etc.

I don't understand why this would lower resale value if done professionally. If a buyer understands all the benefits of this coating and realizes the time and money you will save by not having to detail it ever, and the facts that it will last much longer than paint IMO adds value to the vehicle. Maybe if you live in a desert climate and looks are the most important thing then I could understand not seeing the value. But if you live somewhere with real seasons and snow, or if you go wheeling and get pin stripes often this stuff is seriously ideal and far superior to paint in many ways.

My whole truck is Linex. It’s definitely worth it in my opinion. But sadly, I’m thinking about selling my truck. Will see what happens next.

If you sell it private party just make sure to educate the buyer on why its superior to paint. If selling to a dealer of any kind I guess it depends where you live and if they realize the benefit. However I would suspect 90% of dealerships use a "by-the-book" value estimator and might try to claim it lowers the value somehow. I would love to have that conversation with someone trying to convince me its worth less lol. I am a salesmen by trade so that would be a fun conversation.:duel:

Yes! No waxing and you can use the soapy brush on it at the carwash. :)

hey OP any thoughts on the Line-x coating now a couple years down the line? wondering if theres been any fading and if you are still stoked on it or would have gone another route (probably not with the bro-deal it seems you got, but if money wasn't a driver)

For those that have had Line X applied, have you noticed an exterior noise reduction? I know quite a bit of road noise resonates from the underside. However, the coating must dampen noise to a degree.

I think that spraying the whole exterior with Line X will make rust repairs somewhat difficult. It's not like it won't rust, only that you would have no idea how bad it is. Assuming of course that washing it becomes a never again thing, road salt up here would kill it pretty quickly. I have seen the front fenders and rocker panels done on a late 90's Ram. The guy who owned it figured it would last indefinitely. It looked awesome at first, but eventually it became the body parts rather than a coating. I'm not convinced it made it last any longer either. All that said, it definitely had superior scratch protection!

It's a sound deadener for sure. Really reduces body sheet metal resonation. You can really tell when you just close a door and it's solid

Wipe on a coat of boiled linseed oil and it's rehydrated and back to new. Dries smooth and hard like a clear coat with wax on it

I dont mind the pin stripes too much, but my 2017 roof looks like total ass after a few years in the sun. Its like Toyota forgot a few coats of clear. Couple questions for you kind folks:

    1. Anyone do this in So Cal and happy with the results? Which Line X location did you use?
    2. How does the Line X affect the factory blind spot monitor?

    TIA!

I really wanted color match for mine so it matched the factory blue paint inside the door edges and under the hood. While the factory paint is smooth and shiny, it hasn't aged and if they would have bedlinered it, my doors wouldn't' have closed properly. Both have the exact same color codes and pearl, I just had the bedliner guy mix a bit more pearl on the liner so it would sparkle better in the sun like the factory paint does.

Had my truck for 18 years. Resale value? That's already long gone. I'm driving this truck until it's totaled.

If you get a custom mix bedliner compound sprayed on, like I did, then it's a clear foundation material and you have the color pigments mixed in. You can have them hold out the grit powder and it turns out more like orange peel and is easily washed and wiped off. I didn't want to snag towels and whatever on mine.
