Rock Therapy was amazing. Definitely putting it on my schedule for years to come. Prior to leaving I was able to build a square tube bumper with a friend, and get my roof rack installed. The Grand Teton from Rocky Mountain Racks is very strong, low profile, and silent at any speed. It is now live on their website, and currently has a 4-5 week lead time. The rear bumper held up great. On Saturday I did Gold Bar Rim, and enough of Golden Spike to get to the Golden Crack, and the bumper took a BEATING on that trail. High centered twice, and drug my leaf shackle hangers and rear bumper off countless ledges. On Sunday we wanted to get back to Fort Collins around 10 so we ran Hell's Revenge to the Gate, where I experienced the issue of my motor burning oil after being too vertical for a little too long. Wet conditions from the rain, and a good bit of gear oil on the gate did not help, but I made it up after a few tries. Overall, Moab has left an impression on me, and changed the direction of my build. I want to go back, soon, and often. Instead of my previous plan to make a plate bumper with a spare tire swing out, I will be building a round tube bumper and mounting my spare to the underside of my bed rack. As much as I love my front bumper, I am contemplating selling it to build something out of tube as well. I was hitting my bumpers and skids more in Moab on 35s than I did in Colorado on 32s. 43687657780_01e3433641_o.jpg 43687660650_08da1dc57e_o.jpg Hell's Gate.jpg 45504842901_f147271b88_o.jpg 44591080985_58c11a4b31_o.jpg 45455614532_51eba69fdd_o.jpg 44780795854_db33991dc6_o.jpg 30565642357_dcb8978fab_o.jpg 30564207677_d218991d1f_o.jpg

Winter has arrived. Headed to Rollins Pass on Sunday to see how far we could get.

This was my first trip out on the new wheels and tires. I LOVE these tires. 315/70R17 Cooper STT Pros, siped in the middle section of the tread. They dug through a lot of snow (made it through multiple deep snow drifts, up to about 4ish feet), and kept very good grip on the snow pack and thin snow/ice road conditions.

The new wheels caused a little (lot) of fitment issues due to backspacing. Nothing an 8lb sledge and a grinder wheel couldn't fix. Had to trim an inch or so off the flares (fenders already cut high enough for my last wheels/tires), and hit my firewall/pinchweld back another inch or so. All that is left is to redo my cmc or just relocate the cab mount. I am currently undecided on which I will do. Leaning towards relocation to help fit 37s at some point down the road. I love the wide track width these wheels give, and it will allow me to run a rear shock relocation with 12s or 14s without rubbing the shock body, or running wheel spacers. @ARCHIVE are you planning any black Friday sales?

awesome freaking truck man! I just noticed that rocky mountain racks is having a 10% sale on their roof racks for black Friday. I am seriously thinking about picking one up and saving some money since its cheaper than the prinsu. How are you liking the rack so far? Did you look at Prinsu before making the decision on the RM rack? Could you take some closer shots of the rack on your vehicle? Really digging the black powdercoat with silver crossbars. Is that the half or full fairing on the front?

So far I love the rack. It is silent at all speeds, and is extremely strong. I have looked at the prinsu a lot, and have seen a couple in person. I prefer the way the RM rack mounts to the roof over the prinsu, and there are some features of the rack that I like a lot better. That is the full fairing, and is actually only rattle canned black for now. I have been working closely with RMR to get this rack into production. In the next week or two my side plates and fairing will be replaced with the final design (the one on my truck is 100% functional, but the new design has a more consistent fit to the roofline). Here are a couple close ups of the current rack, keep in mind the production model will have an even better fit, and more adjustability 2018-11-15_09-11-13.jpg 2018-11-15_09-12-33.jpg

that looks awesome. I might have to order one... $611 + shipping for black Friday. are the side plates powdercoated matte or semi gloss? I'm hoping they use a ruggedized matte paint for it. i also wonder if you can get black bolts instead?

Powder coat is a semi-gloss, I can take a close up picture of that tonight. There is no option for black bolts, but you could always paint the heads black. All the hardware is stainless, so you never have to worry about rust

Thanks for the feedback Noah.....I literally just ran across Rocky Mountain Racks online tonight while researching all roof racks in general, was leaning Prinsu for some time now but then realized RMR's was only an hour away in Ft. Collins (ie. no shipping costs) and order was placed.....can't wait to install...going to make this look even better "under the wide open sky"!

Thanks for posting info here and in the Black Friday section.

By chance do you know if the cross bars used are the same ones as the ones on the Prinsus? I have a Prinsu for my shell and already have a lot of hardware. I sent the company an inquiry with some questions, but haven't heard back just yet. Thanks for your time.
