Anyone here using a lithium battery as a house battery? If so, where do you have it mounted? I'm assuming the engine compartment is a bad idea. Anyone fit a 50ah or preferably 100ah battery inside of a double cab without removing a seat? Neither size will fit in the bed cubbies from my measurements unfortunately.

Dumped the Tacoma, that's all it needed.
Not much room under the hood, especially for 100ah, and inside the cab isn’t a horrible idea, but personally I wouldn’t do it.

I’ll be building a rack in the near future to mount a battery in the bed at the back on the drivers side where the cubby is/should be. It will be a few more weeks until I’m able to get to it though.

I've mounted house batteries in the bed before, but those were AGMs. Do you live somewhere it gets down to freezing or below? If so, in cab is definitely where you want them. Going with self heating battery, or no?

If you go with lithium get LFP and not the NMC/lithium-ion technology.

If it's for running an inverter you can look at batteries that are other than 12 and different form factors since you will be running it through and inverter.
https://batteryhookup.com/ has very good prices on battery modules if you are handy with electronics.

Looking at the Renogy right now, which is not self heating. It lists a minimum storage temp of -13F though, which I've never been in.

The bigger thing is the temp at which a lithium can charge. Usually that's only above freezing, >32F. In cab, probably fine, but if it were mounted in the bed I'm sure it could be an issue.

What you planning to run off it?

    Good point!

12v fridge, 12v water pump, 12v diesel heater, auxiliary lighting, small inverter to charge laptops.

LFP as in lithium iron phosphate? I plan on it, looking at Renogy currently. I have a few 12v items to power, so plan to stick with 12v at this point.

    Lithium Iron, yep.

Four of these would be 12v
    https://batteryhookup.com/products/new-4-pack-eve-3-2v-75ah-240wh-lifepo4
    Add in a bms.
    https://batteryhookup.com/products/4s-300a-lifepo4-bms-with-balance-12-8v

That would be 75ah in roughly 10"x6" x8. 5" or double it for 150ah and still be pretty small, plus you have some flexibility in shape.
Be aware these are pouch cells however and want to be compressed in a case, they need some pressure from the front, back, and sides.

Something worth remembering is lithium capacity is basically complete capacity and they can be used across their entire operating capacity. Sealed lead acid however have a dramatically shortened lifespan the lower they are drained and a 100ah batter should not be used for more than 50ah if you want it to last, even deep cycle

    Thanks.

Yeah, we've killed our fair share of lead acid batteries draining them too far. Looking forward to the 90% drain capabilities of lithium. Plus not needing 150 lbs of batteries to run everything!
