    you should get one,

i have 2 mobile units and 2 hand held units..they are extremely valuable to have. get on the right linked repeater system and you are able to talk clear across the US no problem. and getting the HAM license is very easy! now to get Jasmine licensed:D

Inexperienced hikers, that's what happened. Him and his group of friends got lost up there with no cell phone coverage. By the time they made it down the mountain, none of them had any battery life left on their cell phones. I got him a nice fenix flash light for Christmas, maybe I should take it back and get him a 2 meter radio instead. Little bastard.

Thanks for all the support! I'm amazed how fast you guys responded.

Thanks for all your support guys! This will be a learning lesson for him! He should have known better considering all the stuff we always talk to him about being prepared on the trail and always being ready for the unexpected.

Tom, my brother, and and few of us here on the board know what its like to be on a path to no where and having to spend a night out in the wilderness unexpectedly! :D We ALL learned our lesson that night.

But seriously it is such a great feeling knowing that our TW family is always there willing to lend a hand when a hand is needed and for that we are truly great full! Thank you!

PS. I think we might be investing in a SPOT GPS unit for the family to use...after to night you just never know!

i have two different brands of handhelds:

    Yaesu FT60R
    https://www.hamcity.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=0&idproduct=908

    Wouxun KG-UV3D

i have 2 of the Yaesu FT2800m for my mobile radios that are in my taco and in my rockcrawler.

sidenote: the FT2800m is no longer in production and has been replaced with the newer updated FT2900R
