No doubt this has been asked and answered before, but what was the original intent of this little rectangular tray in the console of a 2001 4WD Double Cab?
And what are people putting there these days? Probably not cocaine or bitcoin, eh?

Is the part number still valid for that coin tray insert, @Rock Lobster? Does it fit in the Gen 1 console? If so, can you share the full p/n?

My original is discolored, and the exact Gen 1 replacement is no longer available. :(

@Bivouac for the win. Guess they moved that switch location over the years.

Looks like it's been through a 1/2 dozen winters since it was cleaned. Just giving you a hard time, all that matters is that your Tacoma serves your purpose and it obviously does.

Mine's been a truck too over 27 years and 415,000 hard trouble-free miles, but I have pampered it quite a bit as far as keeping it clean. To each their own of course.

I put the switch for my seat heaters there, I never really used it prior to that.

Interesting that the diagram shows '12' at both the armrest switch panel and the center console. So one of these switches fits perfectly in that spot. It was just never actually placed there. Mystery solved.

That would be cool to get the pigtail to that switch and adapt it to turn on lights or something useful.

I wish a much younger me hadn't drilled holes in the radio trim to install switches for fog and rock lights, and instead waited until 3d printing was viable and affordable so I could make a piece that fits in there and used touch switches.. but oh well.

I imagine you could hack the L/R mirror switch to do something else. Maybe a hidden in plain sight kill switch.

I'd love to hack the D pad to use as volume and track controls for my head unit but I know that's infeasible

I have been making pigtails for years it is not that hard . Most were emergency repairs that are going strong years later.

You just need to know what you want to plug it into.

If you really want to be fancy buy the connectors and pins from Toyota.
