Does everyone think they just took an engine out of the carmy and didn't do anything. Lots of cars and trucks share power plants. They are re worked depending on application. This engine will be stronger and more efficient than the 4.0

People bitching it's no different than the 2nd Gen as far as cab and looks. Ok? But you love you're 2nd Gen right? So which is it? People complain no disc brakes. Who cares it has best braking I'm it's class. People asked for upgraded interior. You got that. More tech. You got that. It's an upgrade. In a few years the same guys bitching will be saying 3rd Gen > 2nd gen

Isnt the Atkinson cycle just snob speak for 4 cycle gas motor?

This video makes the suit look like he's trying to release the next iPhone. I dont think the man drives a truck and probably makes enough money to never have to use it in a "work" capacity. They seem to want to focus on "lifestyle" and looking cool and not practicality of use.

The most important part of the entire unveiling is that its going to have a hybrid di/pi system in the 3.5, which IMHO is going to be a big point of failure because you're adding an unnecessary layer of complexity and parts. I think this means they've raised the engine compression (one of the points for using DI) and that's not necessarily a good thing for a motor used for towing. How else are they going to make up for the power difference in displacement? They're certainly not going to release a new motor with LESS power. Your taco can now too have "the chirps".

The D4-S aka DI/PI will work fine. It's been in the Lexus IS/GS 350 since 2006. I've seen many with over 200k miles and no issues. It's rated by Wards Auto as one of the top 10 best engine in the world. Your belief that higher compression is bad is false. Plenty of diesel are running high compression. Audi run super high compression 13.5: 1 and they are turboed too. Hell our 2nd gen trucks are running high compression right now 10:1 I don't hear people complaining when they are towing... for the most part. It's all about been more efficient. What do you think the engineers were doing out in the desert when they were testing that test mule pulling a trailer awhile back?

otto cycle is standard 4 stroke operation. atkinson cycle is a compression stroke thats shorter than the power stroke, this is done by leaving intake valves open quite a bit after the piston passes bottom dead center on the intake stroke down, compression stroke up. effectively reducing the compression stroke length.

The wheel well arches have been squared off making for an uglier less smooth side appearance. What no diesel?? Just drop in an off the shelf cummins. No thanks I guess I wait for the next generation. My truck is just great at 100,000 miles except that they owe me new rear leaf spring packs and a frame inspection. Of course I would wait until the recalls are completed first. Then what? There are 1/2 tons out there that get better mileage than then "new" Tacoma.

Bumping aside he's got a point about bigger trucks getting better mileage. It should be the other way around, THEN you can say apples to oranges. Orange isn't supposed to do Apples job.

Lol. It would be like if mid size trucks could tow more than full size. Then everyone would be saying wth?? That's how many feel about full size trucks getting better mileage. Even though it's usually exaggerated or nonexistent
