Lo Pro QT Install on 2013 DCSB

    Just rec'd & installed the Lo Pro QT tonneau I ordered last week for my 2013 DCSB. Install was pretty simple, took about an hour, including a couple of false starts and time for some pics. Only a couple of issues. When I pulled out the instructions and compared to parts, nothing looked the same. After I went back thru the shipping box, I found a piece of paper marked "Tacoma Supplemental Instructions" That's the real install instructions. Here's how it went after that.

    The parts, excluding the actual cover:

    Remove the cargo rail end plugs and the tie down cleats. Slide the brackets, three per side, into the cargo rail:

    Put the tie downs back on, between the brackets. They go in the cut outs in the rails:

    Attach the rails to the brackets, leave loose for now:

    After make sure the rails are evenly positioned, tighten everything down, both sides:

    Install the weather stripping at the bulk head:

    Attached the header & cover to the rails at the bulk head, do not tighten, leaving some play in header. Here's the other issue. Nowhere in the instructions does it say to make sure the straps hang down. Make sure they are accessible so you can secure the cover when rolled up:

    Attached edge guards to cover sharp edges on one notch in each rail. Not sure why they ship 8 covers for 2 notches. Will have spares for while:

    Unroll the cover and click tight. Only thing left is to throw on some 303 and put the tools away:

    Looks good. Would be better if it closed tighter around the tail gate. I will have to play with it a bit to see it I can get a better seal. Happy with it for now.

    Also had two pieces of thin weather stripping left over. No idea what to do with those.

    Thanks. That is very much how mine looks. Drove thru a rain storm yesterday, golf clubs were still dry, so I guess it works as it should.

    I have the same cover and I really like it. I wish I had a little better access to the bed rail cleats but that comes at the price of low profile and fit and finish. Can still somewhat use them but a little more limited.

    I've been through the car wash several times with it on and it does a good job. Not 100% water tight but it does a damn good job.

    Mine kept stuff surprisingly dry most of the time, except I did not like the look of the gap, but I mentioned that in your pre-purchase thread. Also you could open the cover through the gap, so locking the tailgate was not that much security. (Of course it can be cut through, but that is besides the point I'm making here...:D)

    This is the Access LiteRider. Not a good picture, but hopefully you can see how it lowers towards the tailgater lip at the end. The gap is about 1/4 or 1/5th of the gap of the Truxedo and cannot be easily opened once you lock the tailgate.

    Anyway, as long as you are ok with that, thats all that matters. I had mine for 3 years. Other that the gap, it held up very well especially considering truck is parked outside year round in Canadian winters.

    Funny story about the security thing. I installed a pop lock about a week after I put on the Lo Pro. Had all my tools & the keys to the lock in the bed of the truck. Finished in the install and just wanted to make sure it worked properly, so shut the tail gate. Of course, the pop lock was in the lock position and the tonneau was completely closed. I'm thinking I needed to drive to a locksmith to get the pop lock opened. Then I remembered reading some threads about the velcro on roll-ups not being overly secure. I pried loose some on the drive side, stuck my hand in and released the lever. Took maybe 10 seconds. So much for security. I guess the combination of the tonneau and pop lock will only keep honest people honest. Anyone who wants to see what is in the bed has fairly easy access.
    btw... grew up in Ontario, then several years in Alberta before relocating to the US.

    Yeah, it does not take much effort to open these. I almost never leave valuables under the cover, even locked. Out of sight out of mind proves to work for me so far. :eek: In four years, I never had anything stolen, or anyone trying to open it. (At least there weren't any signs of it...)
    With the bed being fairly small and shallow, most of the time when the bed is actually needed for transporting stuff, the cover won't close anyway. When I'm traveling or camping and someone wants to steal my stinky socks or sweaty sleeping bag they can have it. :rolleyes: Anyway, I'm in Alberta now, but grew up in Europe..
