I figured the equipment wouldn't be THAT big, they'd be crazy to load a Tacoma with a loader that size. I used to work at a mom and pop landscape supply place and we had an old beater skid steer that would load a 1/2 ton pickup with one scoop. Just sayin, don't get caught up in that it's only one scoop, pay more attention to the weight, topsoil is heavy, especially when it's wet!

Got a half a bucket which supposedly is a 1000lbs. Truck handled it really well. Add me and the Mrs in the cab so I was fairly pleased.

If I am correct the payload for a double cab long bed V6 is 1150lbs? I have an AAL. I got a half ton of pellets the other month and my rear only went down 1 1/2 inch's. Does anyone know what an AAL adds to your payload? Can the rear axle take more the 1150lbs? Just wondering b/c I didnt even notice the pellets in the back in any manner of braking or the rear swaying around.

i had about 4000 lbs earlier today for my truck and it was all connected via a 2" ball. going up a steep hill started at about 35 mph at bottom in third, and was in 1st gear by the time i was half way up.

uhaul rents trailers. abuse the hell out of one of those, then take it back. just get the extra insurance on it so when it breaks down, you are covered.

on 2010 and earlier tacomas, there is a TSB about the rear suspension that basically says it isn't rated out for what is listed, and they can't change the listing now that the vehicle is sold off, so they have to upgrade the suspension to handle more weight, which can mean getting TRD springs in a non TRD tacoma. After 2010 model year, they started putting a little yellow sticker on the inside of the door jamb that says the truck is not rated for as much weight as was originally listed.

also, some people have done different leaf spring packs for the rear suspension that have an extra leaf in there which will handle more weight (but that doesn't mean the axle will), and provide a lift.

    75-100lbs per cubic foot.
A "scoop" is typically a cubic yard.
27 cubic ft per cubic yard.
    1 scoop = 2025-2700lbs

I'd stick to under 1500 lbs in the bed...

Here's mine loaded with 350 bricks. 6 lbs each. Drove it 30 miles home at 30 mph on back road highways (55mph). I have the TSB leaf pack. It was either riding completely on the bump stops or on the overloads.

i recently did a trip of concrete. i took my wife to her parents house to get their truck (08 DCSB v6 auto), and my truck with trailer. trailer is gross weight rated for 3000 lbs. i put 2800 lbs concrete in there on a pallet, so more like 2850, then the rest in the back of the inlaws truck, which is another 2000 lbs. i realized after we got it back to my house that i should have put some of that into the back of my truck as well to spread the weight a bit more. both trucks are stock, but still not a good idea. at one point, i had 3400 lbs in the trailer. that gave me 1/2" of gap between wheel well and tire, which is to say too much weight there too.

Why do people think they can put a ton in what is essentially a light 1/2 ton truck ?

i didn't do the math to figure out weight of concrete when i was loading. 80 lb bags of concrete add up fast.
