Wasn't trying to start a pissing match, just pointing out that there are ways around certain codes and where to go if you wish to legally so something that wouldn't comply with ADA or any other code. We've done it a multiple projects and, with a reasonably good explanation, the local building authority will allow certain issues to be signed off on.

I wasn't trying to either... it's just that (if) the Fed Gov't DOES make these regulations, it happens to be what's common between the carpet height (ADA) and load sticker and very much on topic in this thread!

You can get around most rules if you just try hard enough. Toyota could get around having to put this sticker on, but some jackass would put a load in that weighs exactly what their limit states, drive it until it breaks, and then sue toyota for 10 million dollars because of emotional stress from the incident.

Okay, I am glad that I found this thread. Good to know that this is from the dealership, I was thinking that the PO had gotten some cheap aftermarket suspension installed or something, yet when I snooped around under the truck, I couldn't see anything to support this....

So, this sticker could be a result of having a tow hitch installed? So they are recalculating the GVWR to make up for the weight of the hitch? Am I understanding that right? Because I agree with everyone else in this thread, then, that this is kind of unnecessary. Clearly any added weight to the factory truck is going to take away from the overall GVWR. Even my own weight! My dog's weight! The weight of my groceries! Sigh. Definitely overkill.

Here's mine though, hard to see but it either says 36.0 lbs or 360lbs. Here's hoping for 36.0......

    mine says 0.

The stickers are a required part of any modification to ensure legality for street use. just like emissions modification stickers for those of you in fucked up CA, without the EC sticker OR EPA approval sticker you can not get the car to pass smog ( notice I did not say FEDERAL emissions......EPA IS NOT Federal )

This is also what is referred to as C.Y.A (for those of you that are slow...COVER YOUR ASS)

It ensures that the dealer,Manufacturer, and 3-rd party suppliers can not be held liable for ANY damages if you tow a trailer that is over the recommended number. If you do, it is because you are stupid and did not read the warning labels ( yes, the Feds and local courts do EXPECT you to read and understand the labels)

It does not matter if you take it off, it has been recorded with Toyota.

( I'm not a lawyer, but, I spent ALOT of time in traffic court and both civil and criminal court rooms...traffic was all me 300+ citations)

Interesting... A hand written number with no bar code. Check the first post in this thread for comparison....

Funny you would resurrect this thread, I just found mine for 2 Kg or 4 Lbs.yesterday and was gonna post but figured who gives a shit....

The way I read yours, looks like 36.0.

From your photo I can tell you are not wheelchair bound. You likely don’t use a cane, walker, or other assistive devices to get around.

Of course you feel the regulations on floor type, carpet height, and door knobs are “BS”.

Those of us who do care about everyone having free and equal opportunity and ability to access the same businesses and services don’t feel the Americans with Disabilities Act is “BS”.

Oh yeah, that's why! I was thinking "what pointless B.S., WHY would they ever mandate such a thing!?" Now it all makes sense.....thanks!

So I would guess nobody's gonna organize a group buy for this sticker. I'd like one so I could modify it myself.

I just had my TSB for the leaf springs on my rig, but I don't recall seeing the "reduced capacity" sticker before (since it's a newer purchase). Regardless, it says "reduced carrying capacity by 290 lbs."

EDIT: The TSB and sticker apparently are not related. So maybe the original owner received the newer sticker. Idk

My 2014 Regular cab has the yellow sticker for 5 pounds. I assume it is because door sill protectors and sliding rear window were mandatory options in this region. There were no dealer modifications on my truck.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency, it is most definitely Federal. It is the agency that establishes national rules and standards for emissions and fuel economy. Individual states have there own flavours, but most are "departments" not agencies--here's a list.

Most states have just two or three environment/health related bureaucracies, California of course has seven.

My '09 came with a sticker indicating a 290 lb. reduction--primarily due to the the towing package I presume--I've thought of modifying it to account for the 26 lb. bed mat (Toyota but not original equipment)...

BTW: The FMVSS part of the tag's code is Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard Toyota has no choice but to include the tag on vehicles sold in the US.

wrong, the EPA is CIVILIAN. the EPA has advisories and recommendations, NOT laws.
ONLY congress and our defunct government can make these into law. Most of the reps go along with what ever crosses the table as far as the recomendations.

that is why there are TWO fuel economy numbers on the sticker of a new car and why emissions REGS are advised not required unless otherwise
    PRINTED in a law book.

The EPA is funded NOW by the FEDS 100% it IS independent of the FEDS. That is why reduced carbon emissions from factories are RECOMMENDED and ADVISED NOT absolute must do.
they MUST be enacted by congress, UNLIKE the FAA who can ORDER changes take place place immediately. FAA is TRULY FEDERAL LIKE the FBI/CIA...... the Fed part you are referring to is the enaction of a FEDERAL DEPARTMENT to ADVISE on public heath and safety.(Nixon, Jan 1 1970...it was an ACT called NEPA)

IF they were a true FEDERAL agency they would be able to enforce and write laws WITHOUT asking for DHS or FBI approval or congressional permission.(NSA/FBI/CIA do this without us knowing.)

(thanks for your list, but, I know more about EPA and ARB than you could possibly imagine....CA has 12 not 7 different emissions "departments".....investigations, rules, enforcement, regulatory, finance, testing, compliance, certification, on and on.....this is why it takes 6 months or more to open a shop in CA)

Been there done that, been to court on this matter more than I want to remember......believe what you want....

Every time you see a warning label on something it's because there are plenty of assholes out there ready to sue for anything, thus the companies are trying to protect themselves.

I think we are talking about the same thing, but from different angles. Congress established the US EPA and granted them broad and ambiguous power to regulate the various things they have chosen to regulate. Unfortunately in our world of run-amok government "regulations" are defacto laws that no one voted for for, Not we the people or even our so-called "representatives", but that hold the power of law.

Especially when any "violation" of the faux-laws are brought before the kangaroo courts that are the Federal Court system--I also have been there an done that. If you ever get over this way give me a yell and I am sure we can further discuss/rant this BS over some number of pints...
