    Hi,

I called my local dealership to get a quote for TRD PRO taillights for my 17 TRD OR.

They quoted me $215 each. I was like “ ok, thx I’ll call you back” then the parts guy was “make sure to give me your vin when you call back”

Sounds like they’re only selling pro parts to actual pro owners.

Do you guys have any site recommendation I can purchase pro taillights without the hassle?

And no, I wasn’t going to pay $215 per taillight. I was calling to see how much they were. I was just shocked when he asked me for my vin number.

    Thx guys!

That’s weird they would hassle you over that. If they can make money on it I would assume they would sell them to you.

    None as of yet
its a restriction put on the dealers by Toyota corporate. its happened in the past with pro wheels and I think even the grilles had it put on them at one point. I think its to ensure there's sufficient supply for production

My dealer asks for my VIN when I buy parts through the parts department. I always assumed it was to make sure what they're selling me fits my vehicle.

toyota is short on PRO everything parts from my understanding so expect a VIN for pretty much everything pro for a while. They must be getting tougher and tougher on asking for VINS though because I bought pro taillights from the dealer no problem at all few months back

Some systems need a vin to verify part compatibility with certain trim levels. Thats how it was explained to me at 2 VW dealerships. My wife drives a Passat and the first question they ask everytime is “what’s the VIN?” Not saying this is the case for Toyota, they very well may doing it to ensure they end up on Pro’s. But assuming it’s for one reason or another is still just assuming. Why not ask him why the VIN is needed?

Oh yeah, eBay is a total scam. Those trader ratings don’t mean anything...

I bought my Pro Grille and 4runner Pro wheels from Tracy Toyota and was never asked for my VIN number.

PRO parts seem to go through phases where Toyota decides to require vins, then they don't, then they randomly decide to requires vins again so on and so forth.

Black FJ wheels, pro wheels, pro grilles, etc have all had the same thing happen to them.

I'm with you though. Dolla Dolla Bill, Y'all...
