Hey guys, I've had a couple of issues on my truck (17 trd sport 4wd) and bought a trouble code reader to see what was happening. I got code C1268 for the ABS system and it's labeled as the Transfer L4 Position Switch Circuit. I know that the transfer switch is just the knob in the cabin but I don't think it would have failed right there, where does the other end of the circuit lead? I can't find any wiring diagrams for the 3rd gens online that show me where to look on the vehicle.

apparently, the trouble code was leading me to the circuit connected to the actuator that controls the 2H 4H, and 4Lo so I did some digging on that, and most people clean theirs out and it works as good as new. to preface, the hose vent came off and there had to have gotten water inside so I'm gonna open it up and hopefully it's not all rusted out. someone said you can check and see if it works by tapping it with a hammer a little and if the light turns off then the actuator could probably just do with some cleaning out.

There’s a good write up on here about opening up that actuator.

If I recall correctly (from reading, not actually opening mine up) there are some parts that have to be aligned properly or it won’t work, just an fyi.

    Good luck.

yes, I took it apart yesterday. With the hose vent being off the entire actuator was exposed to water intrusion and when I opened it up I had water and mud absolutely pouring out of the housing. I took a few shop rags and cleaned it all out, scrubbed the old grease out, and brushed off any rust. After letting the parts dry for a while I tested the motor with a double A battery and it still worked so I re-soldered it to the connections that I pulled it off of and finished scrubbing any leftover corrosion from any other bits of the actuator. Re-applied the white lithium grease and set it back up according to the timing it requires and immediately as I turned on my truck, the problem was fixed. no issues switching from 2H to 4H and 4Lo works perfectly.
