Location of window switches in 5th gen 4Runner

Hello- I've been on the edge of the fence for a while about sending the 3rd gen Taco down the road and getting a 5th gen T4R. I'm looking for a decent used one, between 2015-2020 with a few specific "must haves".

I've driven a 5th gen a few times, no longer then a few hours at a time. One thing that stands out as a possible source of irritation is the mounting location of the window switches. Both my 3rd gen T4R and the Taco have them in the arm rest area. Has the location of the switches been a problem for anyone, either in terms of driving with the window down or anything else?

 

I thought the window switch placement was odd, but it's never been a problem. Maybe after a week or two I had stopped thinking about it and was used to it.

 

Same. It's weird, but not a deal breaker.

Also, sounds like you've gotten some miles in one already, but the 4Runner drives remarkably different from the Taco. (I came from a 2012 and was surprised how different it was, but maybe a 4th gen would have been more similar).

 

Only issue I had going from my 2013 Taco to 23 4R was reaching for the old window controls when I wasnt thinking about it. Otherwise, never hit them on accident.

 

I think my only concerns were the switches getting wet, or the unlock switch being too easy to access if the window was open enough for someone to reach in.

There's been few times I've had to roll the window down in pouring rain to access a RFID reader or a poorly covered ATM. No issues so far.

If memory serves correctly, the lock switch does nothing after the vehicle has been locked for some time, maybe 5 - 10 minutes? Can't test since my 4Runner is currently at the body shop.

It hasn't been an issue for me. I drive two different vehicles so getting used to the switch location doesn't happen.

 

Yeah, being more exposed to the elements crossed my mind more than once plus maybe a bit easier to reach with a coat hanger of something like that. If I could do a frame swap, I'd keep my 3rd gen T4R. It isn't really feasible, plus the mileage is not in it's favor. I like the 5th gen T4R's, it's a matter of finding a non sunroof one in the right flavor in the right condition for the right price..
