Location of your oil filter!!! Awesome

Ahhh shit, didn't catch that one. That just makes too much sense! haha.
I know I can start a shitstorm with this question, but might as well ask. Some of you are using the K&N filters with the nut on them.... but why torque it down that much in the first place? My new thing is I spin my filters snug, then take about a half turn on them. This keeps them on, makes a good seal, but when it comes time to change them, you can do it by hand!!! Never had a leak by doing this.... and it kept me from breaking inanimate objects for all the times I got pissed off and had to use SCREWDRIVERS to remove oil filters after the wife took her Rav in to the stealership for oil changes.

 

You never torque it down, just hand tighten. The vacuum created when running will tighten it down itself. The nut is useful to get it off. On these trucks it's not a big deal as you can get a strap on it if it's really tight, but on my previous cars (3000GT/G35) having the nut was a godsend.

 

Agreed. I don't even fully hand tighten though. Like you said, the vacuum created will tighten it down. By the time I change my oil its usually alot tighter, but I can still get it off by hand. I like it this way, and I have yet to see leaks.

Funny we're talking about things we've all done hundreds of times before.

 

I hand tighten and take off the filter with a piece of sandpaper if becomes too tight.
I added a piece of 5/16 hose to the nipple on the oil filter plate,plastic tied it on the way down and tuck it in the factory skid plate.
The 4.0L has to be one of the easiest oil and filter changes.
