Hi Everyone. I'm a long time reader but this is my first post. I'm having a problem with my locks and FOB. I've searched the forum and can't find a similar situation. The Tacoma is a 2016 TRD Off Road Access Cab. Here are the symptoms:
    • Interior buttons for lock/unlock do not respond. Both doors. Child lock is off.
    • The unlock button on the fob (both of them) makes the double beep noise with lights flashing but does not mechanically unlock the locked door.
    • The lock button on the fobs do not work.
    • This happened suddenly with no warning.
    • The doors will lock/unlock with the physical key (manually).
    • Truck cranks and runs perfectly.
I thought about a bad fuse and pulled some of them (the ones that seemed to be associated with the locks or ecu) and they looked good. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes.

Does the other smart key do the same as well?

While running, remove the key from the truck, does it beep feedback as the key leaves the truck?

I'm not sure but that could be it if it has a relay.

So I went and disconnected the battery for 5 minutes and reconnected it. Everything is the same EXCEPT, now the lock button on the fob gives the single flash/beep and the unlock button doesn't work now. Still nothing with the buttons on the door.

Yes, the other one does it too.

Yes, while running I get the feedback beep when the key leaves the truck.

This seems a tad harder to diag over the internet than I can offer. The door lock ecu is actually the Main Body ECU and it is connected to the junction box that has the various relays.

If I had this truck at my dealer I would be using infostream to watch commands and outputs through the ECU. Plus it may have error codes stored.

DIY is dying because of this crap. Sorry.

Thanks for responding anyway. I'm definitely a DIY guy but guess I'll have to take it in.

Yeah, it's the standard key fob with removable manual key inside it.

When you turn the key in the door manually. If you turn it one way and then the same way again, do the doors lock or unlock?

Nothing happens on the second turn in either direction. I did notice that I still get the one beep and flash when I touch the door handle, but it does not physically lock the door. Just beeps and flashes.

Sounds like a problem with the BCM or a wiring issue. Probably need a trip to the dealer unless you want to start testing wires
