Is the owners manual silent on the topic?

Not a mention in the owners manual. Tried all the key fab tricks pressing both lock/unlock for 3 seconds but still honks one when opening, twice when locking. Annoying for me and neighbors.

Aftermarket alarm or dealer installed KARR is the most likely scenario. Look near driver kick panel inside the dash. Remove unit and all will be well again.

The Tacoma does not have horn honk on lock/unlock. The horn only honks on alarm trigger. If you have a horn honk, then you have an aftermarket addition as others have mentioned. If you are not familiar with automotive electronics, then I suggest taking it to the dealer you purchased it from or a car audio installer and have it removed.
