I just bought a 2008 tacoma and my family has had quite a few Toyotas in the past that have that distinctive lock/unlock beep. For some reason, my tacoma doesn't do this, could it possibly have been disabled? I have heard of some sort of programming sequences that can turn it back on. Anybody out there have any idea how to fix this?

Does it have an aftermarket alarm/remote start/fob?

Yeah, it seems to have an aftermarket alarm. There is a little brick with a wire running down the a pillar in the corner of the windshield. Was there when I bought it. Are you saying that could affect the unlock/lock beep function? It has the stock key fob.

Yeah. I had a remote start put in mine, it disabled the factory chip confirmation which is apparently common. I had to add a horn confirmation separately to get an audio confirmation.

Don't know a lot about the aftermarket alarm, but do you think if I removed it I could get the beep to come back. Do you have to reprogram it or something to get it back? I already took apart the a pillar and found where the wire for that alarm system was routed. I haven't gotten to look underneath the dash to see how easy it would be to remove. Looked like a pretty cheap Ebay unit, it may be pretty easy to remove.

I'd expect so, it should be reversible, but cannot say for certain what was done to your truck.

2008 models do not have the beep on lock or unlock from the factory.

If you want that feature you can add it. There's a mod you can do by adding a Piezo Buzzer under the hood and splicing into the wiring. I did it mine a long time ago and it still works.
