One person had their truck stolen. Coupla others too. Out of hundreds of thousands of trucks.

    Nothing to see here.

I spend summers in Ontario so I use this.

So how this works is they use the antenna/scan system to get into the vehicle and then just reprogram the ignition/start via ODBC?

I have a manual transmission with no start button on the dash. My key’s sole remote function is for opening and locking the doors. I have to physically insert the key into the steering column to unlock it and start the truck. But I spend summers in Ontario so I carry the key in this just in case. That way they can’t get into the truck using a remote device that reads my key while I’m at a store. If they want in the truck they will have to tow it away, smash a window, or damage the lock/door.

You don't need a Faraday pouch with the H key. The key doesn't constantly emit a signal like the keyless entry version, only when you press the lock/unlock buttons. Then you need to physically put the key in the ignition to start the truck and drive away.

I agree you don’t need the pouch with this type of key. I use the pouch so they don’t remotely unlock the truck to get in just in case that capability exists.

Good thing I Kell the fob in the console with the truck unlocked. All those extra people for nothing they’ll feel like such idiots. And best part is I get to call out of work.

Just had my second Taco stolen last night near Toronto (2019 TRD Pro). Had The Club on it and keys were in faraday bag. Gutted.

Damn dude, sorry to hear that. Hopefully insurance makes things right for you. In the future you should consider a sprint booster, as it can lock out the gas pedal.

you can start the truck but it won’t go anywhere with out your passcode.

I dunno... haven’t heard about this happening in the US southeast. But I guess it will make its way here eventually. For my part, I keep my truck locked in my garage. I have an incredibly loud alarm system (two small dogs that bark every time a squirrel farts outside). Between that and my penchant for firearms... hopefully I’ll be ok.

Someone should devise a passcode system (like those used at ATM's) that once you unlock the doors and enter your vehicle you have to type a code into the keypad in order for the vehicle to start.

Well there you go, now Toyota needs to go one better and devise a retinal scan start system! If your eye/s is bloodshot it won't start - could be due to being too sick to drive, too drunk, or too high on drugs.

I wouldn't really expect Toyota to be on the forefront of technology. I mean it took them to the 2020 MY just to add a power drivers seat
Maybe a rectal scan built in to the driver's seat may be an option

Has anyone heard of this stuff happening (at least the fob hacking element) outside of eastern Canada? Seems like it is concentrated there.
As far as defeating the club, I have no idea. Did they pick the lock, cut the steering wheel, or what.

The easiest way to take your truck is one of the oldest ways, a tow truck. They can take it somewhere and strip it without needing your keys.
