First truck was Inferno. 2nd one was Voodoo Blue. I’m afraid that’s my last Taco for now. Don’t even know if the insurance company would cover a 3rd one for theft.

Yeah -that’s not what happened here though. Have the whole thing on video. They captured the code at some point previously when I locked or unlocked the truck and then used a replay attack at 3:30 in the morning to unlock it. Guy hacked away with a saw at the club for about half an hour and then used the same replay attack to start the truck and drive it off. The police believe there is a crime ring that exports these vehicles to Third World countries and that the vehicles are actually sold before the theft actually occurs. Scary to think that your vehicle is in some crime lord’s inventory and that it’s a matter of time before They captured the code at some point previously when I locked or unlocked the truck and then used a replay attack at 3:30 in the morning to unlock it. Guy have to weigh with a saw at the club for about half an hour and then use the same replay attack to start the truck and drive it off. if you’re serious about protecting your truck or if I ever bought another Tacoma again for some reason, I would install a secondary alarm system with siren and gyro sensor (to detect jacking or towing) and one that uses a rotating code to make it more difficult to capture and replay the code as an attack. I would also install a kill switch somewhere hidden and still use the club to buy extra time. Between those three factors and keeping your keys in a faraday bag, you’re probably pretty safe but at the end of the day, it will always be a tug of war between security and convenience.

Damn. Mine was a cement grey 18 TRD OR. Have a midnight black 20 TRD OR now. I agree with you. If this one gets stolen too, I'm walking away. Not even worth the worry. I wonder if the GPS on board is a deterrent. I'm sure they could find a way to disconnect? IDK.

They found my old one in a shipping crate at the Port of Montreal. Insurance had already cut the cheque...but yeah if it happens again, I'm out.

I believe most of these anti-theft systems, even those market as high end, are great for the casual car thief. A car theft ring is a different beast altogether. Specially those that target specific vehicles for maximum profitability. Which really sucks for the owners of high theft cars.

A drivers seat booby trapped with a claymore would help deter thefts.

Doesn’t matter what you do , if they want it they will get it . Back in the day I had a 2000 civic si that was a purpose built track car . It stayed outside at night as my dads race car was in the garage . I had a clutch club, removable steering wheel with hub lock and a shifter lock that locked it in reverse. After multiple attempts from thieves I did something that was against the law that I didn’t know it was but . I bought a second seat pad for my bride set , I straightened 50 or more barbed fish hooks and put them facing up in the pad but not showing , recovered the pad and would leave it in the originals place while it was parked at home . Less then a month later I came out to the driver door open the pad missing and a blood trail down the street . Made a police report where I found out it was illegal for me to set a trap . The police called hospitals in the area to find someone needing fish hooks and a pad surgically removed from his ass . He was charged and the car less then a year later was towed and stripped within 3 hours of them having it . Again if they want it they will get it

The defending part isn't illegal, the injury part is. They are not an imminent threat to you or anyone else when stealing your property. The silver lining is that they can only charge you with anything serious if the other party admits to theft.

I could care less if they are an imminent threat or not. Touch my shit and you deserve to die. Nothing lower than a thief. Perhaps if there were more consequences we may have less thieves.

Not sure about the manual, but yes you can. Just press a button and it comes back on.

If you could care less, then how much less could you care?

I get your point and for the most part agree with your point of view (though, I consider rapists, murderers and pedophiles to be worse than thieves, but to each their own), but the people who enforce the laws and serve the justice system don't care how much you care (or how much you could care less). The law that protects someone from being injured by a trap you set is the same law that protects you. If you want it to exclude people who are actively committing another crime you should write your local lawmaker.
