I never liked the push button starts, and this just adds to it.

sorry about what you’re going through OP.

My blue baby was stolen last night - I'm totally gutted and at a loss.

7 cars in the neighbourhood gone, primarily Toyota's trucks and SUVs

So sorry to hear that your truck was not only stolen but gutted. I unfortunately know that feeling having had a couple of vehicles stolen myself one of which suffered quite a bunch of damage/vandalism and I only had liability insurance at the time so even though I got it back, I was forced to fix it myself. Hopefully insurance will cover it completely. I keep my key fobs in a faraday pouch these days.

Misunderstanding, I meant I was totally and still am disappointed. Police believe it was organized crime based on the various reports and straight up said its likely gone, most likely in a container and soon to be shipped to another country.

What does it mean to be gutted?
adjective: If you are gutted, you feel extremely disappointed or depressed about something that has happened.

Damn. Maybe I am not sad about not getting a smart key and push button start thanks to the manual transmission. Sorry to hear about your truck. Cavalry Blue is a wicked color. That's what I wanted but had to settle on my 2nd fav color 'Inferno'. Only lasted 4 months and then a box truck wrote it off and I had to settle again, this time on red. People suck!

    Wow, sorry to hear this!

All most need to do to prevent this with push button/remote start is to just simply shut off their key fobs from transmitting. I do it every time by pressing and holding down the lock button and then pressing the unlock button twice at the same time, shutting down the fob from transmitting (procedure is in the owner’s manual too). Also, these vehicles have their key fobs hanging up near their front doors and their vehicles parked out in the driveway making a relay attack easy for organized crime.

I didn’t know this 3 months ago when I first bought my truck. Dealership/Sales never mentioned anything about this being an issue.

“It’s as simple as walking to your front door, seeing if they’re able to capture a signal of a key fob that might be inside. They don’t go anywhere in your house. They’re capturing it from the outside. And they have the ability to technologically clone the device and have the ability to start your car and drive off.”

He then figures out that all you have to do is shut your key fob off. No fariday pouch or tinfoil required.

Unfortunately these stolen trucks are in high demand in foreign countries. Your stolen truck can usually be seen on the 6 o’clock news with 40 cals mounted in the back.

Yeah I loved the Calvary blue colour, got so many nice comments from car enthusiast to nice older ladies who just genuinely liked the colour. Sad its gone and that I can't get the same colour. Anyway time to move on.

I always liked that the interior on the inferno had some of the exterior colour.

Thats not in every state. Texas for example you can protect property.

I thought this "keep fob manipulation tactic" was specific to the states and I'm surprised that Tacoma's have made it to the list of wanted vehicles. Arizona has its share of vehicle theft. We had a 2017 sr5 4runner that was nearly stolen a few times out of the driveway. We disconnected the battery, pulled the starter and fuel pump fuses, and got a club for the steering wheel and pedal jack for the brake pedal. After a few weeks they gave up. Unfortunately, a few months later my neighbors Honda Accord was stolen out of his driveway and another neighbor had a few guns stolen from his Ford Raptor in his driveway all in the same night. Pretty much every neighbor on our street has security cameras now. o_O

I remember the club was easily defeated by a hacksaw. There’s another club type device for the brake pedal. That should be alot harder to cut unless you can pick the lock. Im going to look into that as well as a kill switch. Will need to find fuel pump power wires or some kind of ignition kill wire.
