You have to wonder if you’ll see it on TV next with a .50 Cal mounted in the back somewhere in the Middle East. ;)

    Canada Eh!
It’s been mentioned numerous times in this thread that all manual transmission Tacoma’s are not push button start and have physical keys regardless of trim level.

Nope, too new and nice. Also it would have some dude in the back with an RPG instead. Apparently ISIS prefers Ak platforms and RPGs to American style weapons systems. :notsure:

The unlock signal the fob emits when pressed and the keyless entry and push start signal it emits are different. And even the article that says 1000ft says thieves need to be within few meters of the fob to pickup the keyless entry/push start signal. They can just relay that signal to a car 1000ft away.

    Below is the section from the article;

The Qihoo researchers, who recently showed their results at Amsterdam's Hack in the Box conference, say their upgrade also significantly multiplies the radio attack's range, allowing them to steal cars parked more than a thousand feet away from the owner's key fob.

The attack essentially tricks both the car and real key into thinking they're in close proximity. One hacker holds a device a few feet from the victim's key, while a thief holds the other near the target car.

If they look at you, and take one step your direction, you can.

They relay the signal from the car to the fob fist to make it emit the "keyless" signal, and they than pickup the keyless signal and emit that back to the car. So they basically trick both the car and the key to think they are next to each other. It wont work unless they can get few feets of both the car and the fob.

Unless I missed what you were saying, the first thing you made bold, confirms my comments. It refutes you’re original statement. :notsure:

My original comment was "How can the range be 1000fts when fob signal only travels for few feets? Doesn’t seem right to me."

How it refutes it lol. The article basically says they cannot unlock the car unless they are few feets of the fob and I questioned the same thing.

I wonder if you could fab a battery disconnect (hidden) so after you lock your truck it can't be started etc. Obviously the theft deterrent system would not work, but the neither would the stolen frequency to access your truck. Seems stupid, just an idea.

Why are people trying to create a $100 solution to a problem that can be solved for free...

Simple turn your FOB off, or better yet do not hang it on a hook next to your door. Store your FOB somewhere near the centre of your house.

...this isn’t a difficult concept...or I guess it is. This is TW afterall, and AT owners:rofl: I kid I kid.

Yep, keep the fob away from the exterior of the house and they cant pickup the signal to unlock and start the car.

Better yet, you could just hide a little switch and run the ground for your fuel pump relay through it. Get a small lamp switch that you push once for off and push again for on. Mount it under the driver side door with a little plate on it where you can just hit it with your foot when you get in.

I park in my garage thankfully. But if someone was that stupid. There are many obstacles involving dog's, security, shit flying at 1200 feet per second etc.

They may work for home, but what if one is at a shopping center, store, or business with people everywhere or waiting in nearby vehicles to pick up your fob signals?

I wondered also, what if they watch you park, lets say you park at the grocery store. They follow you into the store and when walking behind you, steal your keyfob code and then go out and steal your truck? This doesnt worry me, I'm not the worrying type about these rare instances, just wondering.

One of the folks that post on that 3D printer thread could buy a few dozen of these https://www.alibaba.com/product-det...m=a2700.7724857.normalList.135.232012461QKdo2 at $1 a pop and fab a nice little bracket/paddle design that would custom mount easily underneath on a Gen 3. Or any late model vehicle really (that the owner was worried might get jacked). You hardcore wheelers though, you might bottom out and shut the truck off.
