I need help, forgive me if I’m stupid but
Im totally stuck . Truck is 2005 tacoma from America 4.0 .

My first issue was that my plug was not the same one you showed.... second issue was that rather then my pins going 1 2 5 6 they went 6 5 2 1 all my stuff was a mirror image of what you show ... I’m absolutely stupid or my trucks a lemon .... anyways I used the same colours you used I put them in the same place on the relay but now my 4x4 lights lockers lights and abs lights are all on , I cant engage 4x4 or the locker the only thing I can do is unplug the relay and then I’m stuck in 2 wheel drive , the one thing that is working is when I hit the locker button the relay clicks and it’s light turns green .... please help this noob!

I think you are close and maybe it's just a cross up on the wires. The drawing shows the front of the plug, but I can now see how that could be confusing. Your plug looks just like mine. I've inset a shot of mine next to yours.

    sidebyside.jpg

Here's a drawing from the wire side of the plug
    backplug.jpg

Hopefully this is a little clearer. The front and back of the plug are mirror images. Check that the correct wires are going to the right places and let us know what happens.

Finally got around to doing it to my 07 last week. I made my “Y” and ground cable the day before and got it done fairly quick after work one day. Works awesome! Thanks again for the write up and relay.

    Took a few pictures

I did the tests like the how-to said, but I wanted to make sure lol

Dang, that looks ugly. Isn't the gray wire mod a 1st gen thing? I know there was another 2nd gen mod that tricked the truck into thinking it was in 4 low all the time. I never looked at mixing the two.

I'm hoping someone else can jump in here. It's hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like the wiring to the relay might be wrong. Double check that the correct wires were cut and plugged into the right pins on the relay.

I did just swap 7 and 8 I wonder if having that backwards could have fried the locker motor

It could have since it wasn’t grounded correctly. Have you tried cleaning up the copper wire on there, put it back in, and checked the fuses?

“Ground (if you are using a diode equipped relay it's important that 7 and 8 are connected correctly. If you do it backwards fuse ig1 no.2 will blow.)”

Jeez that’s not good. I can’t even attempt to look at schematics until Monday at the earliest.

Almost seems like something isn’t plugged in.
I know you said you checked connections, but are any of your female connectors going onto the relay touching by any chance?

When I was hooking mine up, the connectors were fitting loose onto the relay and a few were touching, but I tightened the connectors with pliers before plugging the main pigtail back in

Ok I tightened all ends even taped them so there’s no chance of contact still , no green light in relay, no locker light, no power windows or heat I am so confused but 4x4 does work, abs and e break lights are on ..
