The layout is correct with exception of the red paint. If your relay is arranged differently from the one in the pictures, then I screwed up making it. The key is to look at the green LED, it is directly above leg 8. If it looks the same then try the next step.

    relay2.jpg

    relay1- copy.jpg

Put it in the truck and only connect legs 7 and 8.
    • Leg 7 goes to ground, a screw or bolt connected to the body someplace under your dash.
    • Leg 8 gets connected to the Red / Black Stripe wire.
Press the locker switch on the dash and the relay should click and the green LED should light up. If that happens then at least that part of the circuit is correct.

The next step is to connect legs 1-3-5 and 2-4-6. Make double sure that the correct wire goes to the correct leg.

I'm at work right now, so I haven't had time to find the wiring diagram. Maybe you could post some pictures just so we can see what's going on under the dash.

Thanks for the info! I'm going to give it another try after work, and I'll let you know how it goes.

I'm not seeing an LED in this relay anywhere, and this shows the red paint on pin 7. Maybe I'm just delirious from this mod defeating me? Thanks for taking the time to try and help me out - very much appreciated20180709_185432.jpg 20180709_185453.jpg

Edit - I'm putting this in quotes because I don't want someone to be confused about this in the future. If you don't have a relay that looks like the previous post please do not follow these instructions.

Plugged it in like this and turned the key on and the relay clicked on as soon as the key went on. Briefly pressed the locker switch, didn't hear another click, unpressed so I didn't run into another smoky situation. I don't wanna fry the switch totally, so any idea what I should try next? Sorry for the blurry pic - I tried to show the ground and the red/ black stripe

What I can see in the picture looks OK. It's challenging at this point to trouble shoot the problem without the LED. I'm going to send you a new relay with an LED. Look for my PM.

Got the new relay today (thank you! Excellent customer service), but when I hooked the red/black up to pin 8 and the ground to pin 7, I tried to get the relay to click on and nothing happened. When I was examining the connections, I noticed that the red/black wire is looking sketchy like it overheated when I smoked the switch. Am I fubar or can I fish a new wire through there and give it another shot? Any idea where the ass end of the red/black is?

    Where you located bro?

It shouldn't be this hard. Unless this mod is just not going to happen for whatever reason.

I'm in the Virginia Beach area. I just got back into town and I'm gonna take another look at it tomorrow starting with pulling the switch to see if it's damaged and if the other end of the red/black is attached to it. There was quite a bit of smoke when I tried testing the other relay, so I wouldn't be surprised if the switch got bricked.

The McMaster site doesn't provide a data sheet so I can't tell if they are the same. Usually the relay will have a diagram on it showing the connections. Post a picture and maybe we can figure it out from that.

After install relay clicks on and off like it should with the switch but locker and dash light do nothing. Relay feels warm so does one of the leads coming off the purple wire.
