Ave's Angry pixies are the best description of how electricity works I've ever heard.

I've given a passing thought to making a plug and play version that requires no cutting, but never followed up on sourcing the Toyota plugs. Hmm, wondering how many people would be interested in a non-cutting version of this mod.

Edit: I already did the relay install! But if you want to add a second switch for safety:
What is better to interupt the circuit if you want to put a low Amp switch with no relay? Either at the factory e-locker switch or the relay

If you want to add a safety switch I'd use the ground line connected to pin 7.

    So, the path would be
    1. wire from pin 7 to the safety switch pole 1
    2. wire from safety switch pole 2 to ground
This way the ground can be placed conveniently close to the safety switch.

So how does this mod work? And which options does your truck need to have for it to work?

    That looks like it should

Without plugging it in what voltage do you you have between the red/black stripe wire and ground. It should be 0 when the locker switch is off and around 12v when on.

Also what color is the LED on the relay? Red or green?

red/black to ground is zero volts with switch off. 12 volts with switch on.
Red LED and it does not light.

I tried to get the relay to pull in with the red/black strip and the ground across the coil but no dice. The relay coil must be bad. At least that the conclusion I have come to

One more thing. What do the numbers say on the coil? Something like 12vdc or 12vac?

looks like this is a 12v ac relay, not DC. If that matters but I didn't think they were interchangeable.

My first pics show the coil AC12v.

OK - We've found the problem. AC and DC relays are NOT interchangeable. Send me a note on etsy and I'll get a new relay in the mail today. You can pitch that one in the trash. My apologies.

(nerd moment - an AC relay will work with DC but it will draw an excessive amount of current, blowing fuses. I test everything 100% before it ships, but my power supply is an industrial strength beast. It will melt the leads and let all of the magic smoke out of a project without a whisper of complaint. So, now I've learned that my supplier isn't to be trusted with even the simple task of sending me the correct parts.)

It could be the case. You don't still have the bad one do you?
