So I just finished* this mod, locker is actuating in all modes, but I no longer have a dash light indicating locker on. I was lazy and didn't burn through all the comments, but is this something anyone else has dealt with?

Switched over to the second/backup relay I had purchased and all is well. I must have bungled something along the way.

 

This mod is awesome, the only thing I didn’t like was the idea of hitting the switch by accident. So I found this switch cover and decided to add it on top of the locker switch to prevent that from happening. The fit was just a little snug so I filed the top and left side down just a hair, installed 3m double sided tape and stuck it on there. I like that a lot. From personal experience I have hit the locker button on accident, more than once. The last time was at freeway speed . It's no big deal to activate it at speed, but activating it when you're stuck and one wheel is spinning could be expensive.

 

Just performed the modification on my 2008 Tacoma, works like a charm, no issues. I did not install the diode, as it was on backorder and I did not want to wait on it, I did not suffer any ill effects from not having the diode. Locker light comes on when locked. Thanks for the good easy to follow directions and all the comments on this post.

 

The diode is to protect from electrical current spikes. Might not happen today or tomorrow but could happen is all. You should get one as soon as they become available.

 

Agreed, when it arrives I will install it.

 

The diode is there to preserve

It’s not the current but more the voltage spike as the field collapses from the relay coil back EMF when de-energized. A diode or MOV in parallel with the coil will prevent this spike from propagating throughout the rest of the vehicle’s electrical system.

 

New member but have been following thread. Purchased relay with diode here. Finally installed yesterday. Have double checked correct wires. Relay clicks led comes on. No light in dash or locker engaging. No fuses popped. 4wd engages hi and low but no locker. Any sugestions. Connected wires back to plug 4wd works and locker engages in 4lo like normal

 

Did the locker work before you made the modification? Assuming that it did, having it not work after the modification is either a wire in the wrong place, or a a faulty relay. Do you have a meter you can use to check the relay?

 

Installed diode yesterday without any issue, locker working like a champ. Just added new BFG All Terrain's last week.
If anyone is considering this upgrade I recommend it. I had put if off for a few years, wish I had it in earlier.
