Hello there I’m new to TW and I’m about to do this mod on my 2013 OR.

Already ordered the LY2N-D2 DC12 relay from mouser but I’ve found there’s 2 different link to mouser.

The both link are in post #1 LY2N-D2 DC12 (top of post #1) and LY2N DC12 (right after "Get your parts").

What’s the difference between these 2 relay ?

    Thanks

I'm having problems bringing up the link to the second one, but it doesn't really matter because they are functionally the same. I just deleted it so there wouldn't be any confusion.

Ok thanks, I was a bit curious on the actual difference that must justify the pricing (37$ vs 25$ CAD)

Well, I deleted the second link when it didn't work for me. If I remember correctly the second one didn't have the diode installed. If you want to go the DIY route you don't need to go with an Omron relay. They are really a top of the line device and the only one I could find with the diode installed from the factory.

Yup you’re right. I’ve already got mine with the diode. Should be able to do this soon.

    LY2N-D2 DC12 with integrated diode.
    LY2N DC12. No diode.

Hoy there! I've been a long time lurker, and finally signed up. I never thought of it, but someday it will be helpful.

Anyone went to delete ADD and ditch the 4WD control unit? I actually need to replace my burnt 4WD control unit if anyone have a spare? The part number on the sticker shows 89533-04020.

Good afternoon guys, I am new to this and I just got my first second gen taco (2008) and I am looking to be able to lock my rear diff in 2h and 4h. This guy figured it out and it seems to be pretty slick. I just want to know does it remove any of the safety features of the diff lock. Specifically the one that it won’t engage over 5mph. I also saw someone asking about two switch operation. Where you splice in a switch with the green wire as a Safty. Any help would be much appreciated. I know not to break rule#1. I still would like to know if there’s any safeguards left in place after doing this mod or is it all in the operator. Thanks

thank you, I think I’m gonna do two switches one that is on the vilolet wire that powers the relay. Just need to make sure I don’t interrupt power to the 4wd module box.

I have accidentally hit the locker button at 70 mph. It's no big deal. What would be a big deal is hitting the locker button when one wheel is stopped and the other is spinning. (I don't think that's even possible on our trucks, but it would be expensive.)

An extra switch or something like this is he way to go if you're worried.

yes they work or even a spring loaded pull to toggle one would be better than just the oem switch. In the 10+ years I’ve had this mod done the OEM switch has never caused me any harm though.

Read through most of this thread but not all of it so forgive me if I missed this but what if a delay switch was added to the diff lock button so that the diff wouldn't lock until 5 or 10 seconds after you pressed the button? This would save you from accidently hitting the button while at speed and having the actuator start to move. You could click the diff lock back off quickly after realizing your fog lights didn't come on. Maybe someone with more electrical knowledge knows of a device that can delay a circuit?

you could just put something like this in series with the switch and relay coil.

You could do that, seems like a lot of work and when I want my locker I usually want it right now. If you're using the locker at intended, very slow to stopped speeds, accidentally hitting the locker really won't do any damage. The most likely accidental activation will happen at higher speeds when you try and turn on the fog lights. Don't ask me how I know :anonymous:. . . . . OK, from personal experience accidentally hitting the locker at 70 mph is not an issue.

Now what would be an issue is if you accidentally hit the locker when one wheel is spinning and the other stopped. With all of the traction control on our trucks I don't know if that is even possible. (and I've never tried) If you're stuck and have your your foot to the floor, one wheel spinning and one stopped, and you reach down to turn on the fog lights, that would be expensive. (if it is possible with our traction controls) You could add ways to prevent accidental activation. My personal favorite is a switch protector that stops an accidental bump.

I just attempted this mod tonight on my 2014 off-road.
    I’m using omron LY2N-D2 12VDC
I have all the correct wires cut, triple checked the pinout
I have all wires plugged into the correct numbers on the relay
When I press the locker button the relay light comes on. Nothing happenes
When I try to go into 4lo the indicator flashes and I’m getting a beeping from 4wd module.
    Any help is appreciated

Sounds like your issue is unrelated to the locker mod. Are you sure you are in neutral or have the clutch pedal pushed down if you’re a manual.
