What do you need?

  1. I just want 2Lo (no locker)

    3.1%
  2. I just want to lock my rear differential anytime. (no 2Lo)

    27.5%
  3. Both in one PnP solution would be awesome.

    51.9%
  4. Make these god damn lights go away because I wanted a manual T-Case.

    3.8%
  5. I want to have full manual control over the 4x4 system including overrides. (eliminate the 4x4 ECU)

    13.7%

So I am revisiting the locker anytime mod and have decided to draw up a PCB for it. It will be like the existing 2LM,except there will be no need for a switch. This design can/will incorporate both the 2LM and Locker Anytime. Let's just call it the 2LLAM for now....

It will just be a splice harness and a small "black box" containing an Arduino, relays, and all the power electronics.

I'm trying to get a feel for how many people would be interested in a combined solution vs just the locker anytime without 2Lo. It seems silly to me to have them separate when all the necessary signals are on the same connectors.

I will probably never use a anytime lock... but for a $200ish and to get rid of 2lo switch, i would go for it. And its only right that it should be similar to @Up2NoGood excellent 2nd gen 2lo system.
(and I am sure some of us would feel 100% comfortable splicing into our existing 2lo harness)

As a thought, i would suggest considering asking if anybody is interested in actuator overrides in addition. (a pair of dpdt switches that manually drive the front and transfer actuators, in case something gets broken on the trail it will let you manually engage or disengage 4wd, if the actuators are still semi-functional)

I'll add that, but I will have to think about how to implement it nicely. Something like that may warrant an LED screen and quite a few more relays. I'm thinking I will be using multiple SPDT relays instead of a couple 4PDTs. That way I can customize firmware and/or hardware for special cases.

I was thinking manual DPDT switches (just the way my structures brain thinks). I definitely defer to you and others to determine elegant way of doing it.

(This is what i was thinking for a manual implementation, in conjunction with 2lo, which disconnects the actuator from the ECU... But never built it...)

    EDIT
    Important note i forgot.
If you manually drive the actuators to their mechanical limits, the actuators will go to an electrically unacceptable position and will result in an ECU lockout... (they have to be driven back to a mid position before they ECU will stop freaking out...)

Yep, pretty much what I was thinking. I'm leaning toward an Arduino Nano Every (genuine) for the controller. It will have plenty of I/O available, and I was already planning to have status info coming in from the TC, ADD, and locker switches. Full Manual Control/overrides may be a future add-on at this point. I didn't want to get into designing a pretty mount for the LCD screen so I was trying to keep it simple. It could be that the screen would only be used in emergencies and plugged in as required?

    Good idea
Using the 2h/4hi/4lo switch for 2lo and the locker switch for anytime lock is definitely the most elegant design... I am not sure there is enough customers to make an override worthwhile...

Schematic is as completed as I can make it..... Sending it off to someone that has more time (and is more talented) than I to see about getting the PCB designed.

Sooooo on the non-OR / non-Pro side of life, this new setup would allow us to toggle the T case and ADD independently and at will? Almost like having a manual stick and free hubs?

It was a poll option, but it is not my primary design goal unless there is a significant demand for it. Full manual control adds quite a bit of I/O and control (along with the code complexity), and I just don't think there is *that* much demand.

The more likely scenario is that the base board gives you the 2LM, and you can connect a daughter board to get the locker anytime. I haven't decided 100% yet. Trying to see how much the PCB design is going to cost me, then BOM cost, the production cost. It all adds up.... :anonymous:

In the end if this thing cost $500 it wouldn't sell. I'm just trying to be realistic here.

For some reason i really like the idea of a small touch screen to control the 4x4 system. That could be the dream

The Arduino will have I2C so at some point that *could* be a reality. I'm not promising anything here though.

I drew this up to be the least intrusive to the stock controls as possible.

Thanks! I just wanted to check my assumptions and gage reality. For now, it sounds like the existing 2LM is about as good as can be expected for us.

My vote is locker anytime no 2lo. But if it takes 2lo to get me a locker anytime... I'm good with it :D

    This is exciting sh*t!!!

That is the way I am leaning.... I like the way 2lo is going to work with this method. It may end up being fairly close to the same price when you factor in not needing to buy a switch... The locker would be an add on.

You got a high / low estimate on what this is gonna run me for the locker mod? For a guy that doesn't already have your 2lo kit?

All the brains are intended to be in the base 2lo board. The only things on the locker daughter board will be a few relays, mosfets, and resistors. Hard to give an estimate without a final design though. It certainly will be much cheaper than the base module.

Right on. All I vision is 2wd Hi, locker on, traction control off, and the OV Performance tune bouncing off a 7000 rpm limit in the mud. :D

I already have the 2lo mod, but would love to turn my rear locker on while in 2h. I drive a lot of gravel logging roads and miss being locked in the rear while in 2wd.
