Still looking at this as I have time. I just bought a spare 4wd ECU from Ebay to tear apart and possibly sacrifice if necessary. There are a few things I want to investigate before getting full on into design of this thing. I have the basic schematic and software flowchart done (the 2nd part is all in my head at the moment), but I want to see if there is any possibility of reprogramming the stock unit. I'm also curious if there is any CAN bus sniffing I can do to somehow intercept the dash lights and TRAC/ABS. I'm no CAN whiz, but I'll give it a whirl.

Huge fan of 2WD locked! Had it on my Gen1 and used it all the time.

Question: Will this work with 4WD in High range, Meaning, 4WD High with locker?

 

Yes, the idea is that you will have manual control in 2hi and 4hi, it will work normally in 4 Low (2lo also).

 

I need this in the worst way.

This question came up in another thread. Currently it is not going to be offered as modular.
But, he did say "Unless you are comfortable splicing into your existing 2LM harness". So maybe if there was enough interest in that approach, we could convince him to have that offering.

 

If an add-on option never materializes, you might be able to sell your existing setup to someone who doesn't want the anytime locker option. It would help offset the costs of the new setup.

 

Modifying the existing 2LM harness is not realistic. It can be done, but would require you to be good with a soldering iron and terminal crimps.

I think the current 2LM and this will remain 2 separate products. You can always sell the 2LM to upgrade.

Have you been able to finish up a prototype?
Do you have an idea how this would be activated yet? AKA, what would a guy need to do to get the locker locked in 2 hi, 4 hi ?
I'm still very interested in purchasing this mod.

 

I have a schematic but no time to do board layout/design/packaging right now and no ETA. In order for this thing not to be the size of a shoebox, the design takes some thinking and planning. One of the bigger challenges has been finding board to board connectors able to handle more than just a few amps that are readily available. Again, I'm doing this in my spare time, and right now all that time is being consumed finishing my basement to make room upstairs for a baby room, starting a business since my FTE closed its doors 2 weeks ago, and plenty of other not so fun things.

If I have any updates I will post them here.

As for engaging, I am still planning a no-button route. For the locker it will probably be a long press of the button in 2hi and 4hi.

I put a bluetooth controlled 4 channel relay with a 12v to 5v converter in a waterproof box under the hood. The amount of wasted space in this setup is insane. I totally understand what you meant by that statement!
