    Which locker do you have?

And are you a manual trans?

I imagine that is what accounts for the little bit of added “slop” in the driveline (Should have added that to the list of quirks) if that makes sense.

Maybe look at the Yukon Grizzly locker. It is just like the Detroit, and provides 100% lock up and ratchets out on turns. But it has a new design, that saves the carrier if the ring and pinion blow. That being said, a Detroit is a great unit.

That is a good unit man...

The Lock Right is different from the powertrax... The powertrax has a better engage/disengagement...

Could be why you don't get the slow down pull..

Maybe so. I can’t speak to it because I’ve never driven another locker.

I’m going to go test this with mine in a minute. It’s possible that the sensation is there, but slight enough that I’ve never noticed. Curious to see if I can pick it up when I’m trying to feel it. Will report back.

    Good talk in here!

I 2nd the powertrax no slip. Been running one for years with zero issues. Took me 8 hrs to install mine but since then have installed a couple more and dropped the time to about 5 hrs.

Great unit. I have to advise though if you're in a snowy region, you're going to have to "relearn" to drive all over again.

I have a 1997 4runner that just blew a head gasket at 345K miles. I plan to part it out. I have the Rear Dif-lock. How much do these generally go for?

Ha ha. No kidding. Locker plus ice equals learning curve for sure. Awesome doughnuts though.

Do you have the e locker? Could sell the entire axle assembly for $400-$500 or so.

Ice in general sucks but I drive the truck twice in the winter to Indiana from South carolina and I've seen 18" up here and get around pretty good.

Matter of fact, I'm in Indiana now. But I didn't bring the truck for donuts this year. Brought something with 350 more HP. :)

    For science...

I just did a series of slow downs to see if I can feel a pull when the locker disengages. I got up to speed then braked harder than you would during normal driving. I did this at 40, 50, and 60 mph.

Felt nothing other than slowing down. Would be interesting to see the results from another unit.

    Excellent...

I remember when purchasing I spoke with the Richmond gear rep abou the Lock Right...

He was encouraging me to go with the "no slip"... But at the time, it was a substantial price difference... Canadian gear heads take it raw on some of these aftermarket goodies...

I also wonder if it has anything to do with an automatic, and the instantaneous release of drive shaft pressure... In some instances its called "torque reversal"

A GM 4L60 is bad for torque reversal between 3-2..

The price difference is still pretty substantial. Believe mine was on the high end of $400

I had an Eaton Truetrac put in last summer and even with studded tires in 2WD it's sketchy compared to an open diff. If I'm in 4WD it's a lot better.
