So, been tossing around the idea of putting a locker, like the spartan, or lock right locker in my Tacoma.

It is a prerunner, and has the Auto LSD function, which only does so much good. I go wheelin fairly often, nothing too serious, but occasionally go to the local off road park, and the truck usually does fine except when I'm really articulated in the rear and one tire just slips. I don't mind hitting those obstacles with some more skinny pedal to get through, but I'd rather not have to.

My question is, If I go with a locker like the ones I mentioned, will the Auto LSD freak out? Or could I just get away with completely turning TC off?

inb4 buy an ARB air locker. Can't justify that price tag when it does fine as it is with the stuff I throw at it. Just want to improve it some without breaking the bank.

    Thanks!

Detroit true trac torsen lsd pairs nicely with the auto lsd function on the truck.... other than that you dont want an auto locker in the rear of a DD, so just go an ARB if you want a full locker.

I had a lock rite locker in the rear of my old Prerunner, it was a '99 though so it didn't have the limited slip feature...I can't comment on how it would behave in conjunction with that.

But the auto-locker was great, worked like a charm on the trails and was a night/day difference in performance when off-roading in 2wd.

Only thing with the auto-lockers is you have to put up with the very audible "clack clack clack' sound they make when they're disengaged on turns while street driving.

People say you have to be careful with them on city streets too because if they do decide to lock up (on wet/slick roads for instance) they can be a bit dangerous. I never had that happen to me but I live in SoCal where the streets are dry 90% of the time.

The clacking doesnt bother me much, used to rock a 240 shitbox with a tomei 2 way diff, very clunky hahaha.

    Thanks for the input!
