Lockers come in 4 basic varieties:
    1. Limited slip
    2. Automatic
    3. Selectable
    4. Spool

The locker you choose depends upon your need and terrain. A spool directly attaches the ring gear to your axles. This transmits 100% of the power equally to the wheels with no bias. Works great in limited applications but makes it undrivable on the street.

An automatic locker provides power equally to both wheels under load but are suppose to "open" when the load is released. Different makes are more/less sensitive but basically work the same. In the rear axle, they can be streetable with practice but not advised if you experience snow and ice conditions. The front axle is unadvisable if driving on the street due to understeer. You'll also get uneven tire wear.

Limited slip is the best locker in terms of road manners (besides an open carrier) as they do allow biasing between wheels when cornering. This road manner benefit, however, means you will not get the same performance offroad as you would other lockers.

A selectable is the best of both worlds. Open carrier on road and a spool offroad.

If this is a DD or spends alot of time on pavement, a selectable or limited slip will probably be your best option. With limited slip, I prefer the Detroit Tru Trac since it does not use friction discs which can wear out nor does it require friction modifiers. You'll get varied opinions but I've never had issues with understeer running a Tru Trac in the front.
