How hard would it be to swap a locking rear diff into my truck? 2002 DCSB Prerunner.

Don't they make an ARB air locker for that axle? That would probably be easier and cheaper.

After buying the ARB and paying someone to install it, you're going to be close to $2k. Not worth it, IMO for a prerunner. I'd rather accumulate the parts for a 4WD swap for much cheaper than that.

But I imagine an ARB locker and set up is cheaper than a TRD Elocker and custom wiring harness.

Wiring a elocker is very simple....hot wire ground wire and switch...thats it, no custom about it.

There is a complete locker axle for sale in the 1st gen market place.

Doubtful. The axle would be a direct swap and the wiring is simple.

How much do you think the axle would run though? We're talking an entire assembly. I've never priced this sort of swap up, I've always wanted to go ARB since I want to regear anyhow.

I'm not arguing with you either, more so discussing alternatives :D

An ARB plus compressor will run about $1200. Then add on installation to that unless you know how to setup gears and you approach $2k.

I'd bet you could buy a used axle for much cheaper than that and could swap it in your driveway.

If you were to regear, I'd go ARB since youre tearing it apart already. If not, I'd find a used axle.

But like I said before, a 4wd swap would give you the most bang for your buck.

I think you're right about the 4wd swap, but at the same time.. He never mentioned that as an option in the OP

Yeah, I'm just wanting the rear locker. That's all. No 4x4

Why is that? If you're looking for a more capable rig 4x4 is by far the most economical option!
